Have you attended a Carlos Celdran tour? How was your experience? Will you recommend it to your friends?
@bisdakdiay5 жыл бұрын
NO because . ... 1) There no room for Imelda Marcos RUMORs in a city tour guide, esp that he is a well known anti-macros. 2) His speech is not pleasant. 3) you see how the foreigner are frowning? Are they tired? bored? Carlos's accent to thick? 4) If he wants to be funny, try a neutral more universal joke. Avoid politically loaded one. Otherwise, he will sound like an ACTIVIST in the middle of his hate speech.

i used to work in el hogar's cafeteria ,as a dishwasher .used to walk everyday for months to and fro luneta park ,where i considered my home then, carrying my belongings in one duffel bag . used to work in dasmarinas street as a counter personnel ,for a now defunct may garden restaurant in the late 70's and early 80's .everytime ,i visit manila ,i always travel to binondo and sta cruz ,just to reminisce about my past .gone are the days when "love bus" was shuttling passengers between makati and escolta. i miss the old manila .good thing though is that chinatown is still alive and kicking !

thanks for your response .it was extremely difficult to survive ,especially when they were typhoons ,as guards from govt edifices wouldnt let us (fellow homeless) take a shelter there .we ended up sheltering ourselves under those trees in the park. but at least ,i know how it is to face life struggles .my only refuge was to go to church ,as there were no other recourse to seek help .one day ,i petitioned virgin mary to intercede and help me find people ,who will finance my education .i was a high school drop out ,then.after a few days ,my prayers were answered .i met a wonderful german family ,who learned about my plight ,took me under their wings and financed my education .to make long story short,ive been living and working in the US for almost 30 yrs now and is contemplating retiring already.Fortunately ,I was able to purchase properties here and there and has been helping financially ,even my siblings ,who who were hostile to me,when I needed them the most. Of course ,i continue to have strong relationship with my benefactors .Furthermore ,everytime ,i visit RP ,I always see to it, to pay homage to Ermita church ,where it all began!I also visit the benches in luneta ,where i used to sleep ,during those trying times . God bless!

It's really sad that the current government does not see the potential of Manila. Escolta alone could easily bring visitors by restoring its historic buildings, beautify the street, make it walkable and even bike friendly, plant trees, and bring back even just a little charm. It's already attracting the creative and history lovers in mind. I can already see restaurants, cafes, ice cream parlor, coffee shops, and boutiques in here. Bring back Manila's soul.

It could be mordernized along with heritage and low- rise glassy buildings,trees,and parks.like the one they are doing in copenhagen,denmark. A mix of classy architecture buildings,old and new.
@ryanbeltran94134 жыл бұрын
@@delmonte4824 Yeah Copenhagan still looks European. Esctola still has mostly old architecture. They need to just rebuild some ridcuus eyesores and try to do otehr things like bring more high end stores and retarauents into the area. The make most of the street and area walking and it can be like Manhattan in New York, Champs elysee in Paris, or even the main streets in Rome. I persoanlly want Intrmuros and Escotla back to its pre 1945 glory, but if they can just make it nice and try to respect the old past with some modern building then it can still be nice and even unique. For example, having colored buildings with more American or British style buildings will be very nice and might be cheaper than restoring some of the buildings.

BTW, how many of you knew why Makati boomed in the 60s? You may have a story but here is the true story. The Ayala Ave., Makati Ave., Pasong Tamo Ave. (to name a few in the Financial District) parcels were sold a few years earlier to interested corporations by the owners (you know who) at almost give-away prices; ON ONE CONDiTION "Build, Moved and relocate here in Makati". Most complied. Just like that and Makati and the rest of Metro Manila was never the same again.

Ayalas were part of it's historical landmarks, might as well coordinate the idea of transforming escolta into something new by reconstructing old buildings and make it popular again. Of course all illegal settlers and waste management should be kept priorities, including safety.

For the record, the title of Miss Manila was not taken away from Norma Jimenez and given to Imelda, instead Mayor Lacson created another title called Muse of Manila and bestowed it to Imelda Marcos.

It was supposedly a historical tour but sadly, I thought Mr Celdran overstepped by propagating the Lacson-Imelda rumor by including it in his narration. It was obvious he was trying to humiliate the Marcoses.

Manila before WWII was a mixture of Paris, Havana, Barcelona. Unlike Singapore and Hong Kong which were pure Asian cities with a western facade, Manila was a true blend of the East and the West. Had the Americans been more tactical in exterminating the Japanese much of our urban architectural heritage would have been preserved. But because they knew that leveling the city would mean massive reconstruction projects, they went ahead and utterly destroyed Manila. And so, now all we are left with is a gigantic haphazardous mish-mash of the old and the new with very little artistic and architectural unity.

Even the joke that came with Escolta is dead. Check this out: Two friends nagmamayabangan. First friend: "Pare mayaman ako sa iyo" Second Friend: Bakit? gaano ba kalaki ang lupa mo.dito? First Friend: 50 Hectaria, pare sa Makati (that was when Makati was a meadow). Second friend:"Mas mayaman ako pare; isang hectaria nga lang ang lupa pero sa Escolta naman! that's the joke. Nowadays I would rather have a hectare in Makati than 50 in Manila (Escolta).
