I really learned a lot from his talk. Manila is defined as what we really want. Ano ba talaga ang gusto natin maging. Its about kung ano ang gusto mong ilagay sa iyong kasalukuyan, sa iyong presence. Medyo na gets ko ang gusto nyang sabihin. We people to label that and label this. Tayo lang naman ang gumawa ng mga yun.

If only Daniel Burnham's grand plan for Manila was followed. What he had in mind was a metropolis built for the environment and pedestrians and networks of a public transport system with private vehicles running along the main roads. I think the "pwede na" attitude among Filipinos disregarded that plan.

Carlos Celdran, one of the last few good, honest and sincere intellectuals of the country. If all our public officials in all government branches think and dream like him, we'll have a better governing body and a better public service system. And the entire country would look good plus Manila would be the metropolis it was before, but with a better and clearer outlook and vision of the future. I don't know if Celdran is a modernist visionary, but his secularism doesn't seem to be one of a hypocritical humanist philosophies being peddled by atheists.
@tuberobotto
@tuberobotto 10 жыл бұрын
In my own mind, I think the country and Manila wasn't just ravaged and broken into a million pieces by the last war. Our biggest enemy now is the ebbing morality from within society and from within the government. Our public officials have only one kind of morality in mind, the morality of their own survival and the proliferation of their own kind.

i have read in wikipedia about Philippine History. about 1500 there are actually City States ruled by Kings: Kingdom of Maynilad (Kota Seludong) ruled by Raja Matanda, Kingdom of Tondo, Kingdom of Namayan, etc. Philippines Religion is actually Islam.
@tuberobotto
@tuberobotto 10 жыл бұрын
"Philippines Religion is actually Islam". I think that would be a bit difficult to substantiate for as you can see, the early friars who came to the country with the Spaniards recorded animism and even ancestral worship as one of the belief systems among the natives. Remember how it was said that since Catholicism was established among the natives, idols or "Anitos" were destroyed and burned. There was also the animistic, and pagan, belief of Diwatas served by Babaylans. Our language even provides the clue that we were also most likely, chiefly Hindu indoctrinated as evinced by the word "Bathala", sanskrit word for a god. There was also the controversial golden Hindu inspired statuette found in the South, inside a tree. However, evidences of an Islam colonised Philippines aren't enough to infer that the ENTIRE country was Islamic. The "Vinta" boats design often alluded to Islam isn't even Islamic but rather, common to many regions within ASEAN which were Hindu indoctrinated. If anything, I would even say that many parts of the country is either animists or totally non Islam. The mythical Princess Urduja in our legends, who fought bravely as a warrior, is in itself a contradiction to Islam which treats women as secondary citizens. We have cultures of dances and music and instruments which also contradict the Islamic teaching that these things are "haram" to their belief. The culture of Gongs and Kulintangs are a common fare among SouthEast Asian cultures. And the Singkil with the finger extensions similar to Balinese and Thai dances, are reminiscent of a Hindu culture that prospered in the country and South East Asia during ancient times.
@jingginger72
@jingginger72 10 жыл бұрын
those kingdoms are not muslim. they are tribal kingdoms which still exist. thier chieftain still holds the word datu but they are not muslim. there maybe stronger influence by hinduism since most of our ancient artifacts shows it.

Sa limampung taon akong nawala sa Pilipinas, hindi ko mapagwari ang kahulugan ng mga salita na Taglish. Nawala na yata ang ating karangalan at kabihasnan. Our Pilipino Culture in its purest form had been watered down by coined, borrowed or simply foreign words. Many present day Filipinos abhor and critical of Philippine Literature. Legends like Maragtas, 10 Bornean Datus, Prinsesa Urduha are frowned upon looking for proof of existence. Let Legends be legends. Any proof King Arthur existed?
