@@armelior4610Majesty: The Fantasy Kingdom Sim, i recognized it by the unit moving with a sack(it's a merchant going to gather gold from houses) is not in this list but they listed in previous lists. For me is a good and beautiful game even at today, played it first time like 5 years ago, on win 8, after some year i found about Majesty 2 and now i'm on it, altrough it have some bugs is good for RTS nerd, is difficult and atipical, because you have no direct control over units.

The best game I played as a kid for a long time was Kingdoms: Total Annihilation. It was a very good game, it had a unique mechanic where the more a unit killed, the stronger it became, even changing the unit's designer, making it golden. There was an elder dragon system, each race had its own supreme dragon, each hero had their own skills and magic. Kigdoms was a game with unique mechanics that I haven't found until today!

Oh man, no signs of BC Kings, a RTS based in cavemen vs mutants where each have their own technology and it is a frenetic game. Or Jurassic War, a very old RTS based in prehistoric times where there are eight factions with their own way of playing; even Brütal Legend (despite the adventure open world it is known, it is also a forgotten RTS). Or Battle of Survival (BOS wars); a small freeware RTS game. Or Impossible Creatures, which whole premise is the mixture of two animal DNA to create your units.

You should give a shoutout to the M.A.X. games. Also, Lords of the Realm games, which are the mechanical precursor to Total War with both RTS combat encounters, and turn-based province management, with economy and diplomacy.

I remember on my first laptop in 2000, Commandos Beyond the call of duty, would not work at all, even tested on a second pc, it always gave a "where's the cd" error.

Do you know an RTS that was late 90s or early 2000s, one of the races were a stereotypical aliens with big heads and big eyes, and base building was very basic -- you had only 1 building that was slowly upgraded.

just to add to that, dune 2k will not work on windows 10, as I tried it a few times, what happened (after checking email and alt-tab back in, screen was super dark, and could barely see the title screen.....or I should say title "screens" plural......the game split the screen and there were two sets of eyes. plays well on windows 7.
