I think the most interesting RTS game I ever played was Achron - an RTS with actual ‘time-travel’ so you could send units back or forward in time, reposition units if needed to make a bad fight better, or to counteract how your opponent was meddling with the past/future. It was extremely polarizing though, because how the game worked either clicked in people’s heads and they loved it, or they found it confusing and difficult and refused to play it again.

Sacrifice definitively deserve it's own video. It's a big cult classic for a reason. Nice to see Act of War too, it's schlocky in it's plot and presentation but it's superingly high value for what was th equivalent of a AA game at the time. Like really has a feeling of "I want to be Command and conquer genrals bbit with some actual addiotnnal mecanics". The few mecanics like infantry ambush, garison fighting and prisoner capture made it decently fresh. Go a DL too that added mercenaries and naval combat. Shame the spiritual successor Act of Agression was a complete flop. No man's land defintively deserve a shout out fo being one of the very few Western themed RTS. Fels there would be more that could be done with that. Netstom is very unique and also a cult classic for a reason. Both it's mecanics and aethetics stands out.

Sacrifice was amazing and memorable. Though my only gripe was the strongest unit of one faction (think it was a flying winged demon) was bugged and did zero damage unfortunately. It was one of the reasons why I could never beat that campaign.
@MrFirecam11 ай бұрын
You are probably referring to the Hellmouth. That thing does poison damage and sadly it's a projectile with a small range. Beside healing itself like all charnal creature the poison is actually powerful and can outdamage a healing mage if stacked. If you attack a manalith with it it deals a good chunk of damage instantly. It's good to make one and harass manalith with it but in the campaign they are guarded and a dragon do the job better. They can also consume blue souls but that's a huge risk, if you resurrect them with a spell they keep the souls tho, so that's pretty neat. Probably the worst lvl 9 creature but i like his quotes. To make them stronger i'd say that the poison should be able to spread like the Plague spell, that'll also heal them more and allow them to live long enough to stack poison with deadeyes. Abomination and styx under guardians will take care of marduk's army and you can slowly destroy his defenders with Intestinal Vaporization and run towards the neutral blue souls.

Act of War has one little design quork that I perosonaly adore for some reason. Game has 3 armies - USA ( self explanatory ), task force talon ( USA^2) and Consortium ( the bad guys). 'Muricans have 3 tech tiers, consortium has 2. It was very common for RTSs of that time to portray USA as super high tech spec force, with it's enemies standing a fighting chace only by overwhelming numbers, brute firepower and/or underhanded (terrorist) tactics. And consortium on thier tier 1 look exactly like this. However on their tier 2 they reveal all thier cool toys and things go 180 - Now they have the technological edge over eveyone. Game may be overall quite meh ( it's esencialy slightly worse C&C Generals ), but devs made concoius choice to make non-usa the technodominat fraction in the game, in 2005 of all times, right in the middle of USA world police craze, and I love them for doing so XD
