Amazing work. I’m looking forward to bringing my E63 M6 down to you to have this exact work done later in the year.

Great video, my friend recommended you guys to do my rod bearings on my m5, I have all parts and many many more parts to have replaced, I asked bmw what they would replace if they did it and just bought all bits, also when doing this job it's worth replacing the aux belts and pullies and engine mounts as it's in the same area

Hi there, i have 140k km on my e60 m5. Tracked it once and will track a few times a year in the distant future. I have changed my rod bearings 15k km ago and the vanos parts are still in good shape, but I have not changed to the updated oil squirters. Do I have to change the oil squirters if I were to track my car few times a year?

135,000 miles on my e39. Debating on doing these on mine even though they’re not as problematic as the S85.

why do the conrod bearings wear so qucikly, is it because of the crankshaft and would hardening it help prolong the life of the conrod bearings or even prevent the problem for recurring in the future?

Do the bearings in the vanos pump fail often? If yes is there any way to rebuild or change it? Great content as always. Greetings from Germany ✌
@hansbrix24954 жыл бұрын
Albert Sch it seems to be a bigger issue on the pre LCI engines (2005-2007) model year. Dirty oil and metal debris from the worn bearings go through the VANOS pump and can destroy or crack the bearing race on the VANOS pump. Hallo aus der USA.

Zombie Head I have a 00 E39 M5 with 317k original owner. Never had issues with the rod bearings. Don’t skimp on oil changes and use 10w 60 oil. I do my oil changes every 3k miles. I drive the car hard. However it’s always warmed up before hitting 7k rpm. You will be fine. I’ve had 6 high performance BMW’s not one issues with rod bearings ever.

@Zombie Head Thanks , but i know the rod bearings are a common problem. I was talking about the Vanospump itself.

Zombie Head I’ve had black stone reports done and they come back clear. No copper or any metals in the oil. Like I said, take care of your car and you won’t have issues. I wouldn’t be scared away of owning a car because of maintenance and repairs. If it breaks fix it.

Albert Sch These can be redone at dr vanos. Or you can do the rebuild yourself. It’s not very difficult. Each unit can be sourced and rebuilt using used individual units. If your doing it yourself you can find vendors selling individual units online. Or you can have the whole unit rebuilt.

Another nice s85 video. Thanks! I found it funny how you guys use inches for clearances. I thought UK was mainly in metric units...
@chrisg4rr3774 жыл бұрын
We do but that's just the measurement card that comes with the plasti gauge
@hansbrix24954 жыл бұрын
g4rr377 did you guys convert from using miles to km?
@RedishMotorsportbmw4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Hansbrix, we're using metric (mm) in this video. It may appear inches due to the length of the numbers but all these measurements in this video (from the Plastigauge Card to our hand writing) are all in mm, i.e. 0.038mm. UK uses almost all metric systems apart from arguably Miles, and MPG which are still the norm for distance/travel. Hope this helps. Please consider Subscribing to our KZbin channel!

No we never converted from Miles to KM, so still use Miles inside the Vehicle Dash, as well as Road Signs, and even use MPG for fuel consumption too.

When you check clearance with yield fasteners do you yield the bolt? Do you basically have to buy twice the amount of bolts you need?
@RedishMotorsportbmw4 жыл бұрын
Great question BigBrap. Luckily you don't have to buy twice the amount of bolts. The clearance check process can happen with NEW bolts. This is because the NEW BMW Bolts have to be stretched (torqued) 3 separate times to achieve correct yield. So we use the clearance check process as Stage 1 yield. Then once clearance work is finished we can apply Stage 2 yield. Then finally lubrication on bearings and apply Stage 3 yield, which is where it's finally finished. Hope this helps. Great content and exceptional workmanship @reddishmotorsport. Can you explain if the rattling noise that's usually associated with pre-lci cars from the vanos pump disappeared after the updated chain tensioner, spring and sleeve were fitted? The reason I ask is that all of the Lci cars I've heard they don't have this issue and the vanos pump #'s are the same on realoem throughout the production run. Thanks
