I love your Tours through the greenhouses. Those plant are awesome and look so happy and healthy. Kinda fixed on by your vids, i got some nice little nepenthes for my own last year and they are thriving on my window in my bathroom. Always nice and fascinating to see what crazy things plants can do, especially nepenthes and other carnivorous plants. By all those crosses, i wonder if one day there will be one with all species in it :) Keep up the good work and passion for those special plants!

i reckon nepenthes will become like orchids in the future where the hybrids become so complex they have to start naming the hybrids things like 'sunlight beauty' or 'Mansell's best' and we all slowly begin to forget the parentage of plants. Because there's only so many times you can cross lvbvmv type hybrids together before the names won't fit on the tags lol.

@RedLeaf Exotics What do you think of the idea of feeding nepenthes with aquaponic water in the pitchers as the food source? I love growing them above fish tanks and wanted to know your opinion before we tried it.
@redleafexotics47223 жыл бұрын
I have never tried it so I really can’t say. Experimenting is always crucial to developing the best love for your plants. Maybe it will work great, maybe not. I don’t think it will hurt them. :)

@redleafexotics47223 жыл бұрын
I place it and it grows in spots naturally. I remove from the pots and spread it around. It never likes to dry out and hates water high in salts and minerals. I only use RO or rain water. It loves bright indirect light in our greenhouses. Full sun can bleach it out, even tho it grows in full sun in the wild sometimes.

You can think whatever you want, the beauty if the world! Ha I grow enough Truncata and species of all Types of plants to see that neb is very different in its features and not a truncata at all, nor reached anywhere near the size. Truncated leaves, that’s it. :)
@tiamat873 жыл бұрын
@RedLeaf Exotics well I do, just like you :) species have some kind of variety within, thats nature. You know that as you have been in habitats before. The question is how does the habitat on Mt Mayo look like and is it reason enough to say its an individual species or not. A botanist could declare its just a variation of truncata (if even), but there are big reasons to make it a new discovered species instead, right?

Hybridising plant and animal species should not be encouraged in my opinion! This practice ought to be limited to scientific experimental reasons and controlled commercial purposes. Especially amateur growers and collectors involving threatened species have some serious responsibilities to uphold! Thank you for this wonderful tour of your collection, I enjoyed every minute of it!

@helgedonath15243 жыл бұрын
it was interesting and nice until we started to introduce all the intersections. the plants are thus degraded to hardware store goods and are of no interest. it's a shame that you don't try your best to preserve the rare species. Preserving the gen pole is not an argument, but just an attempt to justify yourself to satisfy your own vanity with new creations. what a shame!
@redleafexotics47223 жыл бұрын
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I breed species and hybrids and have made many pure hort species of rare plants. If you follow along you would understand that. Assumptions are a shame :) breeding for vanity and preserving. Double whammy. 😎
