You can find blue rays and CDs of this whole movie for cheap, less than 20-30$. I highly encourage you to buy it. (you can obviously find it for free on the internet, but streaming sites really make the pictures ugly due to compression, lower quality, and being copy/pasted from other websites)
Seriously. If you have a blue ray reader, give it a go.
If you still want to see it but can't find it nor buy it, send a comment. Who knows, maybe I uploaded it somewhere private and I can share it with you without triggering all copyrights and getting flagged. Again.
Made by Madhouse in 2009

Sadly this movie did not sell very well, it lacked advertisement and was hidden behind other large titles.
This version has a bit more images over the previous one, and was made from the blue ray I ripped. And I re-edited it from scratch without using anything of the older video I posted, which for unknown youtube algorithm reasons, had over 400k views. (it is now unlisted as this edit is superior).

Honestly the thing I like about this movie is that when these vehicles reach a certain speed it looks like they're about to fall apart or just explode. That's how hard they're pushing these things. And the sheer amount of G Force the drivers are feeling.

I just love that extra little tidbit that JP doesn't end up 2nd, the other cars are so insanely quick and so closeby that in the short timeframe of him losing control, Sonoshee winning and him going over the finishing line, the rest of the field goes through and he's like 5th or 6th... It really sells you on the idea that these cars are no joke and that they are _insanely_ fast.

@swisstraeng
@swisstraeng 2 жыл бұрын
I did cut a scene in the video, so it's slightly shorter. We'd have a more accurate number with 8 minutes. 50*60/8= 375kph, so, we can guess that their speed is around 400. Now this is AVERAGE SPEED Since there are parts in the race with turns, the racers might as well achieve 500-600kph on a straight.

You know what’s neat? The driver introductions at the start. It instantly establishes a whole bunch of world building for this scene and the rest of movie. In the first pack, there’s an ex-champion, regulars of past Redlines and the arch nemesis of someone who’s in the current Redline. Establishes that this race are all top class racers and our protagonists Sonoshee and JP are a class of their own, being able to outrace all of them. Then the second pack. The racer whose from the planet hosting the current Redline sets up the Princess’ magical powers later on and then “Planet Dorothy’s very own” racer which is just a neat way of saying that this planet’s natives are the dog people

As a motorcyclist, what I loved was the physical nature of everything. all of them were competent, throwing toggles and clicking switchches, and manhandling thier vehicles through the thick of it, and the sound design- screaming engines, rattling suspension, howling thrusters- when sonasheee takes a run int the drink and then instantly switches to full hover mode.....makes the five year old in me grin.

Oh yes! I used the free software shotcut to do that, it's plenty enough. What helped me greatly in the edit was that, I'm pretty sure, they made this scene without the frisbee scenes first. They likely did that race in one part, and then cut/modified it, and finally added audio. I just tried cutting to make the music match, glad to see it's even shown to students though, never expected that!

I'd like to take a minute to point out that JP had a 14-15 second gap from the leading pack before he used his nitro cap, catching them in the span of about 3-5 seconds (if we cut out the commentator's remarks about his rocket ride). My guess is that these cars, without nitro, push about 200-220 (since towards the end we see JP's speedometer reading 225 before he pops his second nitro cap). For JP to suddenly close that 14-15 second gap in 3-5 seconds, his car jumped from 215-220MPH to a solid *245-250MPH, maybe beyond that.* Towards the end of the race, JP and Sonoshee are both doing ~220MPH until they pop their nitros, and there's no other cars around them. When JP crashes, there's about 5-10 seconds until the rest of the pack catches him at the line (they were both pushing the same 245-250MPH on the run to and past the line, though JP was likely pushing 260-275 since he keeps ahead and starts to pull away from Sonoshee until he crashes). That leaves me to wonder how fast or slow their competitors were to have built that gap in such a short time. Not to mention the fact that JP crashes while still under boost at 260-275MPH. A crash that violent at that speed? Dude's lucky to have gotten away with the injuries he did. This sport is fucking insane.

@jvukovic4
@jvukovic4 3 жыл бұрын
This is better edit, despite the old edit being classic, this new one trims all the fat, and absolutely nails the pacing. This edit is perfect for the youtube medium, as although the mob scene is very important for the movie, its not that important for this 9 minute short. However, as a possible compromise, why not just have a quick cut of the detonator being pressed? It can show that the car was rigged, while maintains the pace and adding intrigue
@swisstraeng
@swisstraeng 3 жыл бұрын
So. I did ask myself why or why not remove the bomb. See, the bomb was linked to the mafia. It wasn't really needed. Yet here, it looks like his car broke just because of how fast he went. Which removes the mafia completely, and in my opinion, doesn't change things much. Why not the quick cut? Due to the music. See, if I would have let that cut, the music just wouldn't match. Already how it's done now, if you listen to it carefully, the song doesn't continue exactly as you'd expect. (at the part when it zooms on JP's eye) I don't think it matters in the end. however, I did remove completely anything with the mafia, which is good. for me at least.

Ordinarily I'm a sub purist, but since there's also a good upload of the sub, bouncing back and forth between that and this, without the bias of nostalgia since I missed this one when it was new... I am now asking everyone: Should I: 1)Post it in japanese 2)Post it in english 3)Both also, should I: 1)Make some more modifications, if there's something to improve 2)Make the exact same video, just that it'll be in 4k (and looks color corrected a bit, no black borders too)

My favorite part of this is at 4:09, navigating the S-curve. The animators went out of their way to show that even in this ludicrously over-the-top fever dream of anime indulgence, physics matter. All the other racers picked massive dragsters loaded with weaponry to deal with outer threats, and they almost turn into ping pong balls; meanwhile, JP's seemingly idiotic decision to go small and light pays off in how he's able to stay planted and weave through the chaos to take the lead.

That thing would have no friction and would be difficult to turn, so of course it would spin like crazy once you got it started. It also makes it drifting around the corner make sense too, she can't take the turn like normal, otherwise she'd just shoot right off the course!
