you could, yeah. this is basically what they use, except they run through an autotune first, tuning everything to a single note, and then through a harmonizer (specifically the Eventide 3000, which is a much more expensive version of the TC-Helicon harmonizers)

Is this like the old school vocoders at all where you have to play MIDI notes into it to tell it what to sing or is it a unit that will generate harmony based on your voice alone? I have the Digitech Vocalist 2 and I have to play MIDI into it to trigger the device. And it takes a very precise touch to play slightly before your voice triggers the sound. The type that will just create voices triggered solely on your voice calls for VERY precise pitch singing. I have a Roland Boss VE-2 and when you use that for harmony, if you are off a few cents, the harmonies are off a few cents too and it sounds horrible. What I did once was play the MIDI parts into a DAW and then just sang during playback. That gave me the chance to manipulate the MIDI to where the note on message was slightly before the voice was going to trigger the vocoder so there wasn't any envelope on the start of the words. When you can just hold down a chord and sing, it's fine. But when the chord pattern moves with the lyrics, your key presses have to be DEADLY anticipated or every note of harmony comes out like you stuttered. The next thing I will try is to play the vocoder out into the Roland in and see how that works. But not today. Football is starting!!! Interested to know more, and to hear you actually use it rather than try to cram everything silly it can do into a 15 minute video. Do you have any videos up where you used it during a serious recording that you might use on a CD?
@RedMeansRecording
@RedMeansRecording 4 жыл бұрын
You need to feed it midi notes OR it will apparently use a microphone on the unit to detect music playing in the room and do it for you I guess.
@eastsideeddie
@eastsideeddie 4 жыл бұрын
@@RedMeansRecording Okay so it primarily works like the DIgitech units do. With a touch of the more modern options added in. As I got old and don't sing every day I have kind of lost it so using my voice as the pitch source is not a good thing these days. I need to play around with combining the Digitech and the Roland and see what I can come up with. Thanks for responding.
@thelabby9998
@thelabby9998 3 жыл бұрын
The vk has aux input getting chords from complex material (whole songs) and delaing the playing so the harmonies get prepared for you singing in time and tune. If you need a basic backing track based and improvisation is avoided then I bet that’s the best approach.

I am interested in purchasing the Perform V Pro in black, primarily for its harmony feature, which I understand can be accessed through the Smart app. However, I would like clarification on whether this harmony feature can be utilized during a live set. Could you please confirm if the Smart app allows for real-time harmony adjustments during live performances? Alternatively, I am considering the PERFORM-VE model in yellow, which includes a looper function. However, I would only require this unit for vocal performance alongside a backing track, and I do not need the guitar or loop functions. Ideally, I am seeking a vocal effects unit that provides delay, reverb, doubles, harmony, and, if possible (though not essential), hard tune capabilities. I would greatly appreciate any guidance or recommendations you can provide to help me make an informed decision.

Holy crapola - I had no idea that my Roland VT-4 would let midi in do auto-tune. I saw you playing the keyboard, stopped - grabbed a midi cable and plugged it into my DM12 and freaked out. ROFL - I never use that voice gadget - and now I'm going to be goofing with it the rest of the day... Sheesh - RTFM right?
