Drove like a boss on that boss. Congrats on the world record!

Hey, cool run - I have a question, though: I've played pretty much every futuristic racing game but not Redout. I've noticed there's quite a lot of wall contact on even the best players' runs. My question is: why is that? To me, it seems there can only be two possible reasons for the game's best players to be touching walls - 1) it's a tech that actually makes you faster - which would suggest rather bad game design, honestly, or 2) it is actually impossible, even for the best players, to stay clear of the walls at those speeds - which would also suggest bad track design and/or bad physics. Would you care to explain? I'm thinking about getting Redout2, but I'm sceptical whether this will feel as precise as wipEout, for example. I'd appreciate the opinion of someone proficient at the game. Thank you.

The answer is more like "neither". You CAN avoid the walls, but you have to slow down too much and hitting the walls slows you down, so it does not make you faster. There are tracks where using a different power-up that allows you to not hit the walls is faster, but this is not one of them. What we are doing is trying to minimize contact in most cases to be able to minimize the amount of slow down from hitting the walls on a track like this. If you go look at my most recent Sirocco video, you will see that I am using a different power up and I don't hit the walls, which is the fastest method for traversing the course. It is not bad design, it is just different. I come from playing F-zero where hitting walls is generally frowned upon. This is just a different style of racing. Redout 2 appears it will be grippier and more like F-Zero or Wipeout. You can probably look at some of the gameplay trailers around on KZbin to see that.

@Martin: Redout 2 is fundamentally different, it is more Wipeout like in a sense that it punishes you for touching the walls while in Redout 1 if you hit the wall at a certain angle and with the back of your ship, you can get away with minimal speed loss. It's by design, encouraging this kind of driving. In R2 turning is more sensitive it's like having magnetic stabilizer from R1 equipped all the time. Not quite Wipeout, because it is much more sensitive there, but far from R1 in my opinion. If you liked Wipeout I am certain you will like Redout 2 as well.

@@vihar1911 Thanks, I already got it - took me a while to get used to the very different controls, but now I love it!

Wow... Abruzzo does not look good in 1.7... nevermind the shadows fading out right in front of you as you drive. Also, yeah... it's very easy to see which update a video was recorded in because of the lighting being massively different between 1.6 and 1.7.
