Love the sense of speed in this game, but I also love being able to race cleanly, therefore I hate the wallbounce. Thanks for confirming it though, I thought I was missing something after restarting pure races countless times. I really like racing with the magnetic stabilizer though (if the controls were maybe at least in between Ms and normal that would have been amazing). I almost wish the gameplay was more geared towards super clean racing, it just seems so graceless and unrefined to have such an awesome game, with such amazing sense of speed, and have the gameplay rely on wallbouncing as proper. This is why wipeout (specially hd) remains king in my book (I know, nobody gives a sh, but I had to include the rant).

As it stands now, wall bounces appear to be more a hinderance than a boon, they slow you down quite a bit. Seems to be less of a speed penalty to drifting as well.

Ahh,this was very enlightening. I had no idea this game was this deep in mechanics, and the thought of mastering them all to race _fast as fuq_ seems like a fun time. I just yesterday had a resurgence in wanting to play games like this, and buying this one seems like it was a great idea. Are there still nicely populated online matches these days?
@ZephTheAwesome7 жыл бұрын
The online scene is rather silent most of the time but you can find a LOT of people on discord (specifically PC players, I've only seen a few PS4 players join so far and I can't speak for the console release playerbase). Usually you can find people there to play with. discord.me/redout will send you there.

Look in the video description for the link to the Redout Discord. This is the best place to find a match! Drop a @Matchmaking in the #matchmaking channel to see if anyone is up for a game. We also host the Weekly Wallgrind on Saturday evenings around 8pm (UTC). This is a free-for-all when everyone just piles in. You'll find plenty of Redout multiplayer action if you browse my other videos.

I can see why some people would rather play Mario kart then this game only cause the handling is crud in this game. In Mario kart drifting was one button on the 3ds and you had so much control even at 100cc but in Redout Its 4 buttons when strafing or drifting and it barely handles and you end up hitting walls half of the time. If the devs were smart they would've highered up the handling on the vehicles and change the strafing and drifting to 1 button because this is A BEAUTIFUL game just a little tweaking could make it more manageable. :)

I know that if you dont tip up, you lose hp from grinding on the floor, but what happens if you dont tip down? Also, i can never seem to smoothly go around tight turns, even on the ship with the highest grip, even though i always strafe in the same direction of the turn. Is there something im missing?

Any chance of explaining the finer points of strafing? People say 'strafe in the opposite direction before turning in to the corner, then strafe and turn into the direction of the corner'. But It's a complete mess when I try to do that. I'd love to see a video indicating when to strafe etc.
@MajoradeMayhem7 жыл бұрын
I recommend looking at some videos with the controls visible - Zeph has a couple, I think. I'm personally not especially good at the finer points of cornering.

A turn by turn guide to getting platinum on "welcome trial" that really addresses the mechanics of the tight turns and boosting points would be really helpful. I've run ti about 500 times and my best is 54.016s. How to maintain enough speed AND a tight line with the Sulha?
@MajoradeMayhem7 жыл бұрын
Welcome Trial is one of the very hardest to Platinum. I'm fairly sure Zeph has a video of him doing it, in which case I'd recommend copying his boost strategy.

Ah, well it's not on you-tube as far as I can tell, Thank you for the reply, Majora. There are only FOUR PSN players who've beat 53.629. One of then using a non-upgraded Koenig managed 46.350s MUST be a glitch! No matter what I try, I lose too much speed in turns (what do the rail color changes mean?) to regain it through long boosts. My ship does not seem to respond as well as those I've been watching. I wish the devs had included an advanced tutorial. I strafe like crazy. What do the various noises mean when turning, do you know? I need to give up on this for a while. I can't even beat 55s anymore. PS thank you for your very entertaining race videos and guides!
@MajoradeMayhem7 жыл бұрын
Here are some vids of Welcome Trial Joltout: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rYjNeX9rmtGCrtk Cow++ does it with all ships: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5q1lZ-JiK95q9E And in case you’ve forgotten, you will definitely need a fully upgraded ship. The ship makes a noise when losing traction - that means you've over-steered (it's better to wallbounce). It also makes a "fizzt" when the energy pool is fully recharged. You should be strafing a lot, since you lose less speed with a corrective strafe than normal steer. Cheaters are usually easily identified by having ridiculous times with a non-upgraded ship. Ignore them - or in my case, ram them off the road with glee.

is it always pedal to the medal or do you sometimes desacelerate ? great tutorial thanks for your time
@MajoradeMayhem2 жыл бұрын
Yes, accelerator to the floor! The reason being, your ship's energy will stop recharging if you let up. And you don't want that. Applying the brakes without letting go of the accelerator is the way to go. A lot of the time we don't even brake; the wall-bounce is often faster.

Alaska speedway.. ridiculous turns. Been practicing forever and just can’t not hit or grind the wall. I’m only tier 1 so it’s not even as fast as it could be. Idk.
@MajoradeMayhem6 жыл бұрын
The corners are very blind and require some memorization. It's important to be on the far left during the first pair of chicanes. The big hairpin at the end is tricky.
@NerdyTurd3077 жыл бұрын
I'm confused about the best ship for the highest average speed. You the fastest ships are the Sulha and the Asera, while the Lunare is a beginner friendly ship due to it's grip. However, according to the stats the Lunare has the highest acceleration and max speed stats out of all the available ships.
@MajoradeMayhem7 жыл бұрын
This is because BOOST POWER is the key to going fast in Redout. Asera has an extremely strong boost, which puts it at the top of the pack along with the Sulha. If you look at the time trial leaderboards, you'll see Sulha dominating some tracks and Asera others. If you are not knowledgeable about the tracks and their boost patterns, Asera will not help you - its non-boost speed is pretty poor. Take the ESA or Lunare. Note that the Lunare has pathetic boost power, and is therefore rarely to be seen in the time trial boards. But if you're getting started in the Career, the handling will be far more important to you than which ship is technically fastest of the pack.
@NerdyTurd3077 жыл бұрын
ah I see. Thanks for the clarification. Does the boost power stat affect the turbo boost ability?
@ZephTheAwesome7 жыл бұрын
The term "boost power" might be a bit misleading, as it's pointing to the total energy pool. The bigger the energy pool, the longer you can boost and the more power (speed) you get out the boost. This goes for active powerups too - the time an EMP lasts is longer on ships with bigger pools, and the time it takes to fully drain your energy pool for a turbo boost is longer on ships with bigger energy pools too. This is why Asera is still competitive. It gets up to over 1.8k km/h speeds (compared to roughly 1.1k with Augmented Propeller, and no boost) after some turbo boosts because the turbo effect lasts longer. To add a little bit to the earlier conversation, the max speed stat is perhaps slightly misleading - this is max speed without any form of boost. While Conqueror and Lunare are fast on those, their lack of big energy pools means their speed doesn't get much further past what is listed as their top speed. I hope this helps.
@MajoradeMayhem7 жыл бұрын
Turbo Boost power basically comes down to the size of the energy pool. For example, Conqueror has a small energy pool, so a weak Turbo Boost.

I appreciate the succinct tutorial. Great voice too :) Is the state of the game such that bouncing/light contact is still preferable to racing "clean"?
@MajoradeMayhem5 жыл бұрын
Hiya! The answer is, less so than before. Redout's latest version has more wall friction, which makes wallbouncing harder and rewards cleaner racing more. The result has been more brakes, more Lunare, and more Magnetic Stabiliser. However knowing how to wallbounce is still an essential skill you won't be avoiding.

Hm...so...i've played this game for a longer while by now and it appears i'm doing everything right and still never win against you guys. I guess i just suck at this too much...
@MajoradeMayhem7 жыл бұрын
You need to know the tracks well enough to put in a decent Time Trial. Obviously that means memorising the tracks, but it also means knowing their optimal boost pattern and best ship and loadout. For example, Vertigo has the very unusual "meta" of Conqueror MS, with very little room for any Turbo Boost besides the loop at the end. Ghibli is your typical Sulha AP with Turbo Boost at the very start, after the hairpin, and on the big straight. Surface Sprint is also Sulha AP, but the critical ingredient here is knowing knowing the shortcuts - it has three. So you can see, if you don't know this - you are not cooking with fire!

Alright. So Redout Enhanced Edition was free on Epic the other day and i installed it. I really really love the game even if it's really basic, because it adds some original elements. HOWEVER. THIS DAMN EUROPA PIPES THING. I've been getting gold medals from start quite easily with my Lunare Scuderia ships, and then comes rank III ships to stop me. I've spent my day on this level and couldn't get better than silver. My fastest lap is at 47.3s and i don't undersrtand how to bring it under 47s. how does this tunnel mess work, what is the key to passing through it ? Also this is a pure time trial so there is no bonuses, i can't count on them to help me there. if anyone knows, please reply and ping me, this enourmous skip in difficulty increase just kills the fun and i'd really like to keep having fun playing tbh
@MajoradeMayhem2 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you're stuck on Spinning Pipe. It's extremely difficult to get a consistent entry off the beginning. If you can manage a neat entry at the very first pipe, that's the key to a great run. My friend Blu' is best at this. It's something even the experts struggle at. You also want a lot of speed and confidence for the out-of-water section. You'll be skipping the wall-less corners with a hair's breadth between you and disaster. This section is very doable though (even I can nail it) it just takes familiarity and practice.
@cynicanal1115 жыл бұрын
Everyone says to avoid magnetic stabilizer, but how is it even possible? As best I can tell, it's literally 100% impossible to survive two laps of Alaska Explorer without it. There's simply no way to take the turns at all, even if you strafe into them. The directions are just vague suggestions, and you just slam into every wall at full speed.
@MajoradeMayhem5 жыл бұрын
Learn the tracks very well and maybe take a Koen with you. Since I made this video, the wall friction / damage has been cranked up. That makes wallbouncing harder to perform and more punishing. The result is that now MS is more competitive. I'm rather out of practice, but you can discuss the meta strategies over the Redout Discord: discord.gg/CCUBDvD I still recommend learning how to confidently handle your craft without MS, because if you get too used to the MS handling, you'll struggle a lot in Pure.

Got some useful tips there :) By the way, what controller do you use? Since my old Dinput one does not works I'm using a mech keyboard but without remapping basically I don't use brake at all!
@MajoradeMayhem7 жыл бұрын
I use an XBox controller, but keyboard is perfectly viable. My friend Cow uses keyboard
@ZephTheAwesome7 жыл бұрын
Brakes are definitely not a requirement. As mentioned (and I can confirm this), brakes are only really used during races when you are low on hull to the point that you want to avoid blowing up. Shallow waters IS a good example of a track where you might find yourself needing to use brakes, but there's a couple others as well. In the end, low hull management is about clean driving and if you slow yourself down slightly for a longer period, this should be possible too. Keyboard is as mentioned, usable without a doubt. One of the top time trialers for PC goes by the name of Dekaid and is a keyboard player.

Good video, I disagree with the use of repair drone. Its nothing but a crutch. You will never get good at a game by handicapping yourself. They should use Turbo AP from the beginning.
@ZephTheAwesome7 жыл бұрын
Repair drone is not nearly as much of a crutch as say Magnetic Stabilizer (in my eyes), as it does not inherently change the way you drive. Besides that it can be a vital powerup for Survival events, especially for people struggling with precision more. As you gain this precision over time though, replacing RD for a more favourable powerup is way easier to do than replacing mS, as your handling is not impacted that much by Repair Drone.
@wylie28357 жыл бұрын
As someone who did mostly pure race for my first 60 hours. Learning all the boost strats at once is very tough. I wouldn't recommend either used as a beginner. HH is better for survival imo. Turbo/HH gives me better times and more reliable survivability over RD/AP. RD uses the boost which really means you are sacrificing the huge time gains from turbo and a large portion of your regular boost. The trade-off for survivability isn't worth the speed loss. On top of that its an active ability. You have to remember to use it. HH just works.
