Ah the 2020 draft, otherwise known as San Jose's Folly. The single reason in the future that every first-round pick that can be is now top ten protected. As a Sharks fan, this one stings.
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants5 ай бұрын
The worst thing about it was I did not think any single NHL player at that time would have won the sharks the cup anyway. Doug Wilson should have fired himself for even doing that bad trade in the first place.
@DBeau735 ай бұрын
Believe me, the Sharks probably did try to make it top 10 protected. They were hoping that Karlson would push them over the top and show the same as he did with the Sens. The consensus was with Karlson, they'd be more than just a playoff team. So they accepted the deal.
@DanRaidersWarriorsSharksGiants5 ай бұрын
@@DBeau73 That first round pick was projected to be a late first at the time of the trade. I am sure the sens would have agreed to the top 10 pick protection since that was very unrealistic at the time. I highly doubt Wilson even asked for it. Dorian was not known for being a genius in his moves. Based on math all rental players still give playoff teams at least a 90% chance to lose. 1 team wins per year and looks smart but all the others look quite foolish doing trades like that. It is smarter to use math in your favor the majority of the time. Like the sharks contract with Toffoli is not good for the sharks math wise compared to other moves that cap on him could do.

Time will tell but i really think that lafreniere would have been better (stats wise) if he wasn't draft by the Rangers... he played in the league pretty early but didn't play as much as he should and the first headcoach didn't trust him at all (kakko is another one that i found had the same progression problem with the rangers) with another team i think he would probably already be a 1pts players.

Dylan Holloway going 28th is wild. I would personally think he’s a top 20 pic. Only time will tell.

Would’ve been amazing if rangers had drafted Stuztle instead of Lafreniere

Dang. The Senators did well with those two early firsts, eh? I'm biased as a Habs fan, but Guhle would comfortable fit in the Quinn/Mercer range at 10th-11th overall. Guhle took a step back offensively, but he was locked into Top pairing minutes against opponents' top lines and he weathered it well. At the very least, he needs to be ahead of Schneider. Guhle outpaced Schneider in almost every category outside of a bad statistic on giveaways, and Guhle didn't stay totally healthy. I mean even the fact that Guhle was a top-pair defenseman on a team with a -49 goal differential and he was -8? I think that's pretty good. Especially because the habs tied for 5th-most goals against last year. Anyways. Rant over. Overall though, I love stuff like this. Thanks for doing this Shannon!

No way you put Lundell over Lafrenière after the season/playoffs Lafrenière just had

Solid list. Your 12-26 are pretty much all interchangeable depending on preference. Though I do think Nikishin should be on here and probably quite high too

Yeah I just did a redraft on 2014. I'd done it three or four years ago. The last time I did it i had Draisaitl,Pastrnak, Shesterkin Brayden Point and Aaron Ekblad still. I just did it again last week , same first four but I now have Ekblad at 21st. I currently have defensemen Travis Sanheim, Devon toews, Gustav Forsling, Brandon Montour all drafted ahead of him. I have Sorokin going fifth now. It's crazy how much movement you get as the later drafted players get to play and show what they can do.

Where was Reinhart?
@biffstrong10795 ай бұрын
@@jeffreym.8957 I had Rienhart seventh behind Nylander and ahead of Larkin. When I looked at this in 2022 and I had him 10th. Since then I had him passing well Ekblad, obviously, Nik Ehlers, yikes and Dylan Larkin.

What a deep draft this was. Ton of good players even beyond the first round.

Foerster put up 20 in his rookie year while playing elite defense. Kid got Selke votes. He will be a 40 goal scoring winger with elite D. He's already a top 4 forward on the team behind TK, Tippett, Michkov.

I think Jake Neighbours is legit. His shooting percentage is high because he scores all his goals right on top of the crease, and he has a nasty edge to his game. Very excited about him.

@@lolo27234 I liked him a lot that year. His offensive upside was seen as limited, kind of like a Rasmus Kupari who ended up busting.

@teapea81845 ай бұрын
@@lolo27234 In general teams don't value 2-way skill all that much when drafting. But Lundell's stats in Liiga were silly levels even compared to Barkov when it came to defending. He didn't have the top end talent Barkov came with, but he was still skillful. Remember when Kakko got drafted 2nd. Yeah it was mainly because Lundell played with him in the juniors that year. Propped Kakko up a lot. Lundell in general doesn't make a lot of mistakes and if he does, he goes around the team asking what could he do better in such situations. Constantly talks with team mates about the game and especially with Barky, who has taken Lundell under his wing. If it weren't for Bennett, Lundell would already be 2C and frankly in the 2nd PP, but Florida is so heavy with Centers, that you have to earn the spot. I wouldn't be surpriced at all if Lundell put up better offensive stats than Bennett. Just that he has to make it happen. Maybe Florida also has some motivation to make it happen to extend Bennett with a cheaper caphit than he might otherwise gets. :D
@teapea81845 ай бұрын
All that said. I still don't think Lundell should've gone top 5 at the time. We simply didn't know how his game would translate to the NHL. But I was truly puzzled how he didn't go to the Wild or Jets on their picks respectively as they really still need someone like him. Then Florida just looks at a chance for another Barkov type player and say yes thanks.

The Kings drafted Faber in the second round and traded him to the Wild in the Fiala deal. Plus a first that became Liam Ohgren. Good trade for the Wild imo

despite not having flashy draft luck like other teams do with their lottery picks, NYR came out pretty good from this draft. Lafreniere + Schneider is not bad at all.

It's funny how out of all of the names in this redraft the only one who stayed at the same spot is the guy who was the biggest draft surprise so far this decade. I love Chinakhov.
