Been trying to get a good time on this game for a few years now and this one was one of my best ones, still got plenty of time save but this should stand as a good benchmark to beat :D

So this is a open source project called REDRIVER 2 which was made a Driver member called Soapy. The whole idea of the project was to bring Driver 2 to the PC and allow it to be played in full 1080p and at a consistent 30FPS. The program can be found here: github.com/OpenDriver2/REDRIVER2

It's tough as nails but still a great game, shame it was damn hard in a few missions which made it insanely difficult to play when I was a kid but yeah great game and did go downhill after this one as it just fell into GTA's shadow :/

Driver parallel lines in my word book its the meaning of my beautiful childhood i miss this game and will love it forever. The thing i love most about the game is the era change. When i turned 6 years old i still played this beautiful game and i accidently restarted the game. I cried and begged to my brother to help me complete the era change because it was so cool to play in 2006. And the songs on the radio. Do we really have to talk about them, just perfect songs. I even used to sing them in my daycare. This game needs more attention.

At 17:43, I noticed the cop is slower in this version. In my tas I had to do some stunt to take him out.

I think i got very lucky with him not hitting me really, the whole time I was very on edge as was the same with a few missions in this run.

@@ViperRacing7 If youre interested, I got the fastest time on that mission during my early days of tasing. It was my first attempt at a tas of this game. It was on an inaccurate emulator so the timing was faster, but in that mission, the truck turned left instead of right, and I took it out sooner. Its called TAP Driver 2 no damage attempt. I abandoned the project because I couldn't get past the second mission lol. I was a n00b.

@Viper Racing why the musics of game are driver1's musics?

It's a option you can enable in the config file of the game, if you have the DRIVER1.bin file in your music folder it'll change all the music to the equivalent of the Driver 1 version of that music. For example Miami music replaces Chicago, San Francisco music replaces Havana etc. However the music is a bit of a odd one in what it does, so it replaces the music in take a ride in the same order as the cities in Driver 1 however in missions it is completely randomised due to some missions using different variations of certain music tracks which I personally like.

So I've played this game countless times over the span of nearly two decades. I have *never* been able accelerate and move at the speeds I'm seeing you move at. How are you driving so fast? Is there some sort of game exploit that lets you move faster? Is this a modification from using the pc port? I just can't work out how your car goes so fast.

@@ViperRacing7 thanks for the response! So I'm aware of Redriver 2 (to a degree). My understanding is that it was supposed to be an exact recreation of the game, just with updated resolution and a stable framerate. Did they change the game mechanics too? As said above, your car seems to be able to accelerate and catch up to other cars much more easily than anything I remember from the original game. Does Redriver 2 allow you to accelerate more rapidly compared to other cars? I'm considering setting up Redriver 2 for myself, but if they changed the top speed of your vehicle, it seems they've also taken most of the challenge (that I enjoyed) out of the game (unless that's adjustable). I'm just trying to understand what's happening in this speedrun to let you catch up to cars so fast.

@@shado5482 So when you played the game originally on the PS1 you had the fluctuating framerate which was tied to the speeds at which you drove the car and caught up to other cars, due to the more consistent framerate it feels like everything is sped up including the cars but in reality nothing has really changed. If anything the car chase sequences have gotten more difficult as you have less time to react to corners and stopping the car. The challenge is still there however one thing that did change that relates to the difficulty of the game is the police AI, when I do my runs I play on Easy (This is also the same for PS1 runs too) however this has been tweaked slightly so they are not as aggressive as they usually are so the Medium difficulty on PC is actually the same as Easy for PS1 and Hard on PC is the same as Medium on PS1 if that makes sense? Like I said the challenge is still there for the most part but due to the inconsistent framerate it meant that THAT was the reason for the change in speeds for car/police chases in-game.

How u game load so fast ? This game is runing 60 fps ?

It plays in 30FPS and it's instant load times because of the reverse engineering for the open source project that is running the game basically it's because it's the PC version.
