I'm glad Pogo didn't add in the "here's Johnny!" part to the song. I feel like that's one of the only things a lot of people remember about this movie, and it's nice that he showed love to scenes other than that one. Truly, this is a masterpiece. Best of his so far imo.

It’s a song called Milk by Moderat!
@MatchstickMan
@MatchstickMan 5 жыл бұрын
This is so different from Pogo's usual style, and it's really forced me to compare. Like, honestly, this to me articulates anger. Like, as if Pogo made this because he was mad and had to get it out somehow. The use of The Shining in particular, the heavier focus on percussion, the solo, echoed piano tones creating a sense of isolation, the guitar creating a sound of nervousness, the use of Jack screaming "Danny," to create fear, the background synth samples creating an ambient tension, and finally the axe swings making up the main backbeat. it all just comes together and really makes me thing this song was made out of a dark place and feelings of anger. But through all of it, the upshift in the "Play with us, Danny" and "All the dried goods and the-" brings out some slight resemblance of his normal, brighter style, cementing that is still his, even if it came from a mindset different than his other songs. Even if I'm wrong, the fact that all of that could be articulated into emotions so vividly and clearly, shows that Pogo is a true artistic genius.

@@leonschlemminger While it is true that Pogo used a theme sample from Milk as one of his sources, his work is way richer, has more variety, several other themes and topics and therefore stands on its own. To simply call it a blatant rip-off means to codemn all sample based meshup music.

True Linsel, I think he uses a lot of ambient layering (which i looooove) and also how he uses the voices, but it could also be his music programs. I was about to say that the song reminds me of Bucephalus Bouncing Ball by Aphex
@therealquade
@therealquade 6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking windowlicker, or come to daddy but without the distortion. To really be Aphex twin, all that percussion needs some saturation and clipping and the voices need highpassed and distorted with fuzz. then it'd be some proper aphex twin.

This actually feels like it's in the same spirit as the movie itself. I'm not even kidding - I feel the same emotions here as I feel whenever I watch the movie. Confused. Unnerved. Unsettled. Worried. Slightly disturbed. It feels almost as if I'm watching a nightmare. And completely unable to put my finger on whatever is the source of that fear.

@ I'd also argue it's his best work. It's not like any of his other songs at all, refrains from using the most famous lines of the movie, and manages to capture the same creepy but mystical vibe of the movie. *If a man draws 100 perfect triangles and only 1 perfect cube, that cube will hold more value than all those triangle combined....* Or something, paraphrasing very badly.

I hate Stephen King. I don't even like Kubrik that much. But this is a shining masterpiece of horror. (Only afterwards realized the pun.) Loved it since the first time I saw it, and I'm not a fan of horror movies either. And this song is the same. Pogo could probably make any movie into a hit song, but he makes it into a dark trance masterpiece that fits the movie. Newly a fan, almost begrudgingly, but still respect this tune a lot.

Never noticed this before: at 1:09 the legs of the jeans below Jack's reflection give the impression of a second Jack sitting in the room. The context of the scene is that Jack is trying to play the loving father but is also becoming increasingly unhinged. He is of two minds about his family and his responsibilities towards them. There are two Jacks in the room. Kubrick was a damn genius.

I listen to this way to much, I don't know what the deal is, I never actually watched the shining, but I can't get enough of this song, I'll continue coming back to it, I've listened to almost everything you've put out at this point Pogo and it's all beautiful, this one is just.. like entrancing, and it's a different vibe, which makes sense being more of a thriller suspense movie compared to the others he's done. Looking forward to seeing more!

This track really takes your music to another level. I appreciate that you continue to try new things, thinking outside the pop structure formula and taking us listeners on a journey with your music. I absolutely love your approach with this one. Just like the film itself, you start slowly building tension until the amazing, epic crescendo loop and then into final conclusion of the track. It feels like a complete musical experience that makes me want to listen again and again. Very well done!

Honestly, these are the Pogo songs I love the most: -It takes a movie or other type of media and captures the overall EMOTION of it. -It only uses sounds within the media, along with some necessary instruments. -It takes memorable moments from the media and gives them a whole new feeling (In this case, for me, it’s “Play with us, Danny”) I admire Pogo’s other work, but these elements got me hooked on his music in the first place, and this one is particularly impressive, even by his standards. I give it a perfect 10!
