Love the Thunderhead sling, had it on a half dozen saltwater trips so far. Yeah it could have some organization inside but you get used to it. With the shoulder strap attached to a lumbar pack it seems like it’s “sort of” the same kind of bag.

Good feedback, I still like both. I don't have a strong opinion either way. I do like the insert in the Lumbar however, but other than that it's a wash.

I would think the sling would be better for wading, but??? You retire the Sage/forget (X?) the model rod you were married to?

I just switched to this pack (no experience yet) because I got sick of my sling sliding off my shoulder. Plus I’d start getting a shoulder ache through the day from the unbalanced pack. I wade deep sometimes so I had to find a happy medium. Hopefully this is it.

Hey Joe, thanks for the review. Do you like the lumbar pack better than your orange Thunderhead sling? I have the sling but also considering this lumbar pack as well.

I think I like the Lumbar better, both are really nice but if you are willing to get the insert the Lumbar pack is really cool because it feels like a "kit bag" where things just stay in their spots. I'm not sure it would work quite as well with the sling. Without the insert its a wash IMO.
