I think for versatility the Samsung but for value/costs the Xiaomi, looks like the pictures with normal light are better on the Xiaomi, but with plenty of light or low light conditions the Samsung is the best. Nice comparison video, liked as always my friend

Amazing to see Mi 8 can sometimes get better dynamic range than S9+. Look at the tree picture with a little sky on the top left, it's simply white on S9+ but clear blue with clouds on Mi 8. OTOH, the red car with big sky on top turns the table around. Weird, eh? In low light, the difference is not huge until you pixel peep. S9+ variable aperture play a big role in getting more light to make the scene brighter without losing details. I hope soon we will have true variable aperture in smartphone cameras (not just 2 switches).

1:30 - Xiaomi overexposed, Samsung got more details if i look at grass on the left 1:47 - in xiaomis picture i cant see details in black parts of the front bumper. 2:44 on par, xiaomi more saturated, 2:52 xiaomi is better to my eyes, i think theres got xiaomi better dynamic range in that one. 2:56 same like in 2:44 - on par, xiaomi more saturated, 3:02 - i think its pretty close, but samsung looks sharper at keyboard and less noisy when i look at display, 3:10 - on par, xiaomi more saturated, 3:14 - xiaomi more saturated, when i look at trees, there are more details in samsung picture, 3:19, - xiaomi more saturated, samsung more details, 3:23 - xiaomi looks like out of focus ??? just look at the face, both xiaomi and samsung got problems with separating background from hair, 3:28 samsung is sharper with more details, but pictures was not taken at the very same moment, 3:59 i think xiaomi got better dynamic range, samsung looks little overexposed to me. 4:02 difference in collors, but other aspects are on par i think, 4:07 xiaomi more saturated, there si so much contrast, that i cant see discs of the brakes, which i can see in samsung picture, 4:26 - xiaomi overexposed, ... ok its boring :) samsung got better camera, but when it comes to price i wll go with xiaomi, cause the difference isnt worht the money

I like the saturated pictures of Xiaomi more than Samsung, Samsung pictures look a bit washed out. But when it comes to video recording Samsung is just way better.

both phones are quite similar. maybe in some details the s9 takes a small advantage.. but both are superb. the stabilization in 4K in MI8 , i think its a question of updating the software by xiaomi. the price of MI8 is below 400 € in my country.. and the S9+ is around 1000€ . does the S9+ is better 2x .. no way , maybe a bit better in 2 or 3 situations.. but never 2x better...

You must have suck at math. Price and performance have non-linear correlation, let alone between the two brands. So you can't say that just because the price is 2x you expect to perform 2x better. There's the so called the X feature/factor that so important and hard to improve if included that would make the price increased non-linearly.

90% of the pictures taken had the AI turned off, but the saturation is still a bit higher than the Samsung. That isn't necessarily a bad thing, most people will prefer the more vibrant colours

Almost in every single shot in daylight the Mi8 had way better dynamic range than the S9 Plus.In low light the Mi8 produces brighter but soft photos which should not be the case since the Mi Mix 2s rocking exactly the same hardware produces sharper images.Hopefully an update will fix this.

Just a heads-up, i read that for now the stabilisation doesn't work with 4k video on the mi 8, but if you switch to 1080p you should be at least be able to see what it's potentially capable of. Just ordered my mi 8 last night, this video shows me I made the right choice :)

Obviously the S9+ is overall a better phone, but also twice the price. For the price? I think Mi 8 wins, hands down. If price factor is eliminated(which it can't, as we live in the real world, where money is everything) then S9+ is clearly better.

*Top 5 camera phones both!* *S9+* has much more natural colors and better detail although it is a bit soft in some photos. *Mi 8* is pretty great but over-saturates and is more contrasty. They are both very impressive in low light but *S9+* is on a league of its own here. Brighter lens with less digital noise. 4K video both great detail but obviously *S9+* OIS works much better, for now.

Thinking of the value for the money you get it is the Mi 8 for me. It clearly looses in the Video comparison while it does have by ages a better sound recording. Regarding the camera it is a close mix. For low light i would still give the win to the Samsung 9+ while in daylight it is tie. Front camera is Mi8 slighly in front. But for what I can tell comparing both mobile devices from a financial point of view and needs the Mi 8 is the winner after all for me.

Xiaomi has the best voice recording while taking the 4k. Stabilization in the mi 8 is bad. But the photos are really good, s9+ also had very good photos. I am here because I want to buy either of the phone. But I'll buy the mi 8 instead because it's cheap. I can afford the s9+ but I have seen issues of the screen burn in. I don't want to risk my money buying s9+ then regretting

I've loved Xiaomi for their price to quality ratio since way back. And I have to say they've come a long way with the Mi 8. Have to give it to Samsung though on low light and video recording. The Mi 8 doesn't do too bad though. So taking the price difference into consideration. The Mi 8 takes it, overall camera prowess not looking at price points. The S9+ takes it. And given the 6k difference it will have in my country. The S9+ is not going to do well

I think the camera on the mi 8 will improve with a few updates
