European think what they meant to say is, they'll upgrade Mi 8 camera to Mix 2s level. Given the comparison. Mi Mix 2s smoked the Mi 8 on the rear camera front. If it had 20mp front side too, definitely had the Mi 8 smoked again (looking at the way the algorithms make photo and video on the 2s turn out better even though they use the same sensors and soc)

The Mix 2S camera looks better to me. Better colors, range, details and looks pretty obvious across the board to me.the mi8 looks washed out everywhere. And the audio on the mi8 is horrible...

Are the photos of low light all shot on 'auto' mode? Also, if it's not too much work, could you display the shutter speed of those low light shots, as that can affect the image quality (if it just so happens I want to shoot a moving cat and it uses a very long shutter speed).

Mi 8's mic IS BETTER. if you listen carefully, Mi mix 2s's mic has built-in noise reducer and it is a bad thing! if you prefer a mic with noise reducer feature then it is equivalent to you liking HDR from google pixel, which is not a bad thing. but i do prefer raw data with no post-processing because thank you (insert manufacturer), i like to do it on my own which will suit my personal taste better, not a "generic" taste. also, if both phone have the same sensor size for the front camera, then mi mix 2s will be waaay better to record video, since it uses 2 million pixels from 5 millions available, while the other one uses 2 millions from 20 millions. i have not yet known a phone manufacturer which uses the same technology as professional camcorder or dslr, which can combine the number of the available pixel to produce the available video resolution. i.e sony a7r ii have 40 mp resolution, when it records 1080p video, it combines almost all 40 mp and then resizing it to 1080p which is roughly 2 mp.

Wow I don't know what you guys are hearing, but the Mi 8 audio sounds MUCH better than the 2S to me. The 2S sounds like it's in an echo box, just not good at all.

With MIUI 10 beta on the Mix2s the audio problem has been resolved. Before 16 kB/s sample rate 44100. After 24 kB/s sample rate 48000. Bitrate too low before. Two files compared I can see that with the same length of the video it's 40 vs 60 MB. That's one third growth. The bit rate growth of 8k is 50% better bit rate.

Thank you so much, Chris!! Surprisingly, the front-facing camera of the Mi Mix 2s is not so far from the one in the Mi 8, despite the big difference in megapixels. I think it's clear that the cameras in the Mi 8 are still not mature, but I believe that both will be at the same level in a couple of months when the Mi 8 receives the first updates. Do you think it is possible to implement the EIS via software update? Taking into account how well is performing the EIS in the Redmi Note 5, an EIS+OIS combo will improve the videos. I still prefer the Mi Mix 2s over the Mi 8. Waiting for your Mi 8 SE review in order to know if the Mi Mix 2s worth the difference over the SE !

someone said this in a comment on gsmarena: I was at the Xiaomi store about to buy the phone but after some testing I realized that the camera is unusable in some situations. At ISO 200 and above the image expedited this colourful banding that got worse as I bumped up the iso. All of their Mix 2s phones had this problem and even the employee devices. The Mix 2 also had the same problem but not as bad. When I pointed the phone outside the store the banding was gone. I can't put my self to buy this otherwise nice phone because of this glaring issue. Is there a fix for this? Did you experience such issues with the mi mix 2s?

I prefer the bit more neutral colors in some of the mi8 shots. A bummer for me is, that the mi8 produces this weird lensflares/glowing from light sources in low light. From what Ive read the bad mic-quality is due to aggressive noise cancellation and compression. People seem to have fixed it on most phones for themselves by editing different files via root. Sadly i dont think xiaomi will fix this for us.

I think the Mi8 and Mi Mix 2s has near identical camera performance, just a slightly different image processing, and in Video, the Mi8 has a lot lower contrast I believe

Almost the same in rear cam, but i lie the saturation of mi 8(eye catching). Video of mi8 seems weird are you far from it or ist just the phone? Front cam mi8 but both are so-so. Overall, mi mix 2s is my bet. No notches!

To me, Mi8 appears a little washed out, which also causes it to look like it has less detail. Front facing camera is better, clearly, on Mi8, and audio is bad on both - Mix 2s just sounds extremely thin, it REALLY lacks bass, the Mi8 on the other hands drops really low in high mids.

The Redmi Note 5 has better autofocus with that dual pixel technology, better 4k image stabilization, better video sound recording. Yes in low light stills, RN5 falls appart compared to thse 2 but at 200$ its a trade im willing to give.
