Yes! - i have read 3 of his books, and I understand how passionate he WAS about Motorcycling, and the T.T. Yet he had other irons in the fire, all vying for his attention. He wanted to do the tour divide, an unpaid unsupported, mountain bike endurance between Canada and Mexico. It was on at the same time! Some of his peers felt sure he was being paid, after all why would he miss the T.T.to do it? They just couldn't understand why Guy Martin wasn't on the Isle Of Man that year! Yes he had a few spills, these take their toll. He went in to work on trucks in a lot of pain. He loves what he does! He made a valued judgement plain & simple! He will go from strength to strength and take on the challenges he WANTS to do. Maybe he feels it is old hat, and a tad dangerous, well it is his choice, and fair play to him! A lad from where I work died there a few years ago. It was on an evening, it hit his family very hard. The late Barry Sheene was once asked what sort of bike he rode on a daily basis. His answer was: 'On the road, you must be mad. The roads are dangerous!', he only entered the TT once in 1971, because he needed the championship points. Fair play to you Guy - As they say on Star Trek - Live long & Prosper! HOABL

This brings me some nostalgia. If you’ve ever had this happen to you, you’ll know. You become good enough at something to the point that it’s almost automatic. It becomes less of something you do, and more something you just watch yourself do. Riding at this pace, or anywhere near this pace requires zero hesitation. If you misjudge or miscalculate, you will die. The *only* way you can do this kind of thing is to flip that switch in your head. Abandon your sense of self-preservation, and have full faith that your innate strength is greater than your vulnerability. There is nothing in this world like that moment. You surrender control to some more basal form of yourself, if that makes any sense at all. And you’re free for that moment. I so sorely miss riding.

@badgereclipse10 жыл бұрын
The bike is constantly outrunning the helicopter but the helicopter is short-cutting the roads and catching up. As someone else pointed, the deception is that the camera operator is tight-in on the zoom, so you can't tell that he's pulling away. They have a 33x Zoom on them. That is a twin engine Squirrel capable of 180mph, however when they fly with stabilised camera systems attached the helicopter pilot isn't supposed to exceed something like 110 Knots approx 125mph. This restriction is so as not to stress the external component (the camera-ball) since anything breaking off it has a high risk of taking out the tail and then the helicopter. As far as the stabilistation of the camera system is concerned it doesn't care at what speed the helicopter flies at. It's more that capable of maintaining the same smooth, picture quality.

I worked on a Police helicopter for 11 years, the fastest pursuit I was ever involved with was a GSXR1000. It outpaced us massively on the straight bits of road (motorway), we only kept up by cutting off the bends in the motorway and straightlining them. He eventually realised he couldn't get away (he had seen us) and rode home. Parked the bike up, took his helmet off and lit a cigarette awaiting his fate.
@CurmudgeonExtraordinaire2 жыл бұрын
I suspect that the way to "out run" a helicopter is to just have a large enough gas tank / good enough fuel economy to exceed the endurance of the helicopter... If the helicopter can only stay in the air for 3 hours, you just need to be able to go for longer than that even if it is much slower than the cruising speed of the helicopter... Then again, if he's only doing 60 mph, are they going to call out a helicopter for the chase? :)
@elonmusk96972 жыл бұрын
@@CurmudgeonExtraordinaire I don't think any bike in the world would be able to outrun a helicopter for 3 hours because of the small tank. I think you can empty the tank of a 1000cc in half an hour if you want to. But if he's on the chase, he could shortly stop at a gas station, fuel it and drive off as there wouldn't be any cops so fast near him I'm guessing. Just some Biker thoughts, maybe I'll need them one day
@RealRyanG0sling2 жыл бұрын
@@elonmusk9697 literally this. I just escaped a helicopter/interceptors2 days ago on my Kawasaki. Kept on motorway at fast pace, refueled it (didn’t pay) and kept going till helicopter run out of range. Police is so fucking stupid. Wasting tax money on stupid chases. If I had killed someone then yeah it makes sense… all I did was to ride without plate..
@elonmusk96972 жыл бұрын
@@RealRyanG0sling Bateman, don't you have experience with killing people?😂 Yeah it's really easy to lose the cops on the ground especially in a city or something unless they are directly behind you. The good old "make a turn a few meters away, turn off the car/bike and let them drive past" works always.

Such an amazing video. I watch it a few times every few months and it never gets old. 3:15 This is my favourite part of the video. He had to almost come to a stop to enter that roundabout and then he pulls six gears within seconds coming out of it. If you watch closely you’ll notice that the bike is moving around a LOT and the front tire even comes up a couple times at that speed. Pure awesomeness!

Lol I get what you mean, but he did outrun the helicopter. I'm going to try and explain as nicely as possible, unlike these other dimwits that can't speak the English language properly and have to resort to swearing and sarcasm. The helicopters' camera allows them to zoom. Whenever you see the picture getting oddly larger, that isn't because the helicopter has suddenly gained speed, but rather the fact that the camera is zooming in to make the motorbike viewable. I hope I didn't sound sarcastic or rude at all, as I am just trying to give you information. Everyone makes mistakes, and it takes a real man to correct a person - nicely. The fact that NUCK had to resort to swearing and amrutr had to resort to sarcasm shows how puny their tiny brain is.

Motorcycles are the purest form of transportation, a true connection to the road. Every defect in the pavement is felt, the inputs on the handlebars and throttle are immediate, the bike can be so gracefully maneuvered with a little push and a shift of the body. I don't think anyone will experience life until they've carved a mountain road on a motorcycle, it's a beautiful thing and the adrenaline can't be rivaled by many, if anything, on wheels.

If you've ever been there, you'll see the moment he was free. When nothing but the bike, engine, tires and road mattered. When time stood still, slowed down. When you pass the point of no return and you're committed to nothing else in this life. When even your heart beat echos in your mind. It's the moment you feel most alive. Right on that edge. I am enthralled with the IOMTT, I raced bikes for many years and always knew that in reality I dont have the skill, or the nerve to ever even think about this!
