I am a small time contractor and i specialize in remodeling. Most of the time i do my own drywall work and i am no expert. But it looks good enough you couldn’t tell. The problem is i go heavy and sand heavy. So this last job was a bit too much mudding to do so i called in a guy. He only used a pole sander witch is fine except i had to come behind all his joints with a sponge and feather the edges. Moral of the story is dont be afraid to use whatever you need to get the job done.

i only sand when final coat is on. 8 just quickly run my knife over the high spots to scrape it off. Keeps dust down to a minimum.

I'm having success using an electric sander with a 120 grit paper. Sure it's a mess but it's fast. Also have a box fan in the window for exhaust.

@@wehubb Yes it’s really best for popcorn ceiling removal, but it’s also good for scuff sanding over texture you intend to skim coat. My wife helps with my commenting and I think she posted the link to the sandpaper

The whole secret is to feather all edges and leave small ridges. If you follow that motto your sanding will be minimal.
