My neighbor plays his music all day almost everyday and I've built a wood fence which I'm going to put Mass loaded vinyl on it. It's 9 ft tall so I'm hoping it works. In the meantime I use an outdoor fan which is like white noise which does a good job of mitigating most of it

Neighbor's house is positioned above mine on the slope. She plays her stupid music and her stupid outdoor tv and the sound actually funnels down towards the back of my house where I like to sit in my yard and read a book and watch the birds. I'm getting more and more angry. There is something about the position of the houses that directs the sound toward the back of my house. Our municipality has a 6-foot fence ordinance. The top of a 6-foot fence would be lower than her deck where she blasts her noise. Any ideas? So far all I've come up with is to play a pink noise app on my phone but the sound still cuts through.

I’m having the same problem with a neighbor. The husband works out 1-2 hours every day playing his music loud. I’ve only talked to the wife who says they can do whatever they want in their own backyard. On top of that, he drops heavy weights and my whole house shakes. I’ve seriously considered getting one of those stink bombs, but it would probably back fire on me.

@@HarpMuse I’m sorry to hear that. I made a discovery - I purchased Apple noise reduction earbuds and I wear them using only the noise reduction feature, with no music. It is pretty much total silence. Works very well. Sadly, it also silences the birdsongs, but it’s better than listening to her television for 8 hours straight in my back yard.

How does a dirt mound compare to a wood or rock wall? It would be thicker (at least at the bottom) and the angle at which sound waves hit it might direct them upwards. I don't think I can build over 6 feet where I am. So perhaps a combination raised dirt mound and them a rock wall on top?

We live uphill from a busy highway and are trying to block low frequency noise, bass from car stereos and 18 wheelers specifically. We're about 100-150 feet from the road. We've installed an 8 foot wooden double board fence, which helped some. Would mlv on the fence help block bass if it's directly between us and the loud cars, or would the sound simply travel through the ground and air and still come through our living room walls?

Watching this on my half acre back yard as a train rolls by. 🤦. We are going to do a 6 ft final fence. We removed about 8 trees on the lot because they were dead (old water oaks) and now the noise is worse. Adding a fence, a few trees on the back of the property closest to the tracks and adding an inground pool with a water feature - should all help correct? Does an inground pool soak up and block ground vibrations?

You need the gap between the pickets because of heat/cold - expansion/contraction. Otherwise I'll crack and fall apart. Build the fence as normal with a 1/8 gap or 1/16 gap. Now by building the fence you'll have to put pickets on both sides and in-between the pickets it'll be a 2*4 gap, the same thickness for rockwool safe'n'sound to be sandwiched.
@Engineer_Heathen
@Engineer_Heathen 3 жыл бұрын
The wood will shrink as it dries quite a bit. This is why decking is installed with the boards touching, but once it dries there are gaps. Fencing is a little different though because small gaps means you could have issues with high winds. So the reason you want gaps is because of the wind.
