Hi Dr Ed, I want to thank you for all of the videos that you post. I had put out a question to you yesterday, but continued looking until I found this one! Thanks! This particular video answers one of my specific questions regarding a small pension that I started receiving when I turned 70. I didn’t even know that I had anything coming to me until the company that I worked for over 30 years ago gave me a call and let me know. So happy that it will not affect my SS!

Thank you for doing this video. I have a pension, and also have enough points to collect SS now. Since I’m working Pt I’m still giving SS a few more years to grow since I’ll be penalized. This really seems like a punch in the gut to me. I worked hard when younger and still working to have a good retirement, but Gov is saying to me….’oh let’s not let you have too much money to survive during retirement, so let’s take away some!’

I’ve worked for the county for 27.5 years so far, I’m one of the lucky ones that has a pension still. I am 52 years old, and plan on retiring in March 2026 with 28.9 months of work. I am so glad that my social security income will not be affected. I have paid into social security since I was 15 years old. And pay almost $1200 a month towards my pension every month.

I was told by Social Security that I would not have to worry about WEP since I worked over 35 years full time and contributed to social security. At age 55 I took a city job that I didn’t contribute social security . After 10 years I qualify for a small pension . I was told that I paid into SS or so long that I don’t qualify for WEP . Hello, i went on line to see if my PERS would effect my SS and the calculator said no. I had about 34 years of paying into SS so my benefits would not be reduced. How reliable are the SS calculators ?
@MikeVehonsky2 ай бұрын
I enjoy your videos with their real-life examples and solid answers. I wonder if some people think the 13% reduction you talk about is additional or coming in the future. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's been known for years (1983) and has already been baked into any SS benefit estimate you get. Sure I'd like more $$, but it is what it is and no point lamenting what it could have been and causing unneeded angst in folks.

I agree. However, politicians are talking about doing it again, so I think it's important to make people aware of all the repercussions.

However, Social Security will take 2/3 of whatever I get from my ex-husband‘s retirement. I sold an investment house and was shocked to get a letter from the Social Security office that my monthly benefit amount would be reduced because the capital gains from the sale of the house increased my adjusted gross income! That is most unfair! Was there something I could have done to prevent my Social Security from being reduced?
@samgonzalez68592 күн бұрын
My pension had a Deffered Retirement Option Payment (DROP). This allows you to retire, and they reinvest those payments back into the pension. Then, your monthly pension payment gets reinvested by the pension. Once you actually leave the company, you can withdraw those funds and just pay federal taxes. Do these DROP payouts count towards your IRMA taxes? invested back into the pension
