Redux Aegislash Is Weird... (Redux Vs OG)

Aegislash has always had a very fun gimmick. Well its redux form takes a interestiong spin on it... In emerald elite redux where pokemon have 4 abilties at once we take a look at this new aegislash form and the OG version to see which is better?

Redux Aegislash is insanely cool when I first realized what it does. Alternating between a battle axe and a bow is such a genius form change. By far my favourite Redux form

for me i just go with full EV on Speed and SpAtk with Modest/Timid (depends cuz Redux Aegislash is slow as hell) and chose Bad Luck. I mainly run the bow form (cuz its cool also Mythical Arrows adds 30% dmg) with King Shield, Diamond Arrows, Clay Darts and Triple Arrows. I couldve gone with Drake Missile but i dont trust that 90% acc, also Archer Shot is a great substitute. Mind you im playing very casually so its not really optimized but im happy with it

Defense and Offense switch is far easier to pull off than Physical and special. And King's shield having Priority is instantly great.

I honestly think that Redux Aegislash was designed solely to be used for the Tate And Liza fight. Every single bad trait it has becomes a threat in both inverse and trick room. Just got to look out for signal beams

redux aegi unfortunately is further hindered by the arrow moves not being stab or particularly powerful...it sure has immaculate coverage, but not much to really hit hard. None of its moves are both STAB and powerful

Og Aegislash is one of the strongest pokemon in the game imo, i remember in the discord i saw some people saying they dont use it since it trivialises the game mainly because the ai doesn't know how to play around kings shield.

Redux Aegislash's typing is strictly a liability if you ask me. It's 4 move syndrome makes STAB already dubious to get away with, with how it HAS to play a mixed attacker. Plus, how in the WORLD is this thing EVER gonna switch in? Only way you're getting this thing in is on a normal type move or forced switch, cause why would you ever want to slow pivot into this thing when it's slow as balls itself (unless you have trick room up, I guess?) Regular Aegislash is so strong on the back of it's absolutely superb typing and complimentary priority combos and flexible offensive sets being able to go physical or special not at the same time. Redux Aegislash got literally none of the good traits of Regular Aegislash. It honestly only needs one change to make it usable instead of a garbage mon; give it actual speed. Sure it'd ruin it for Tate and Liza but it's actually be usable for like 90% of the rest of the game. Giving it real speed to change its form according to whatever it's facing before the enemy can move would make it's bulk relevant while also threatening real damage. It still would be mostly underpowered given this thing has no setup that makes sense but it'd at least check frailer mons. For now this thing needs to live inside Trick Room if you want to use it.

Yea while I love the axe vs archer concept of the Redux form, OG Aegislash is still superior imo. Redux at least gives it a different look and (somewhat) playstyle, but the fact that OG with its better defensive typing gets both Shadow Shield and Levitate is just too good of a buff to pass up

Redux Aegislash is kinda difficult to use because it's too slow and lack of priority and healing moves. I played it using Bad Luck+Shell Bell to live a bit longer but he's still pretty bad. OG is still better

If they rework it so that it changes stance at the start of the turn, it might be more viable. That was a big advantage normal aegis has, its always in the form you want it because kings shield priority. still not the best, but at least it can viably wall stuff in singles

The redux form is awkward to use. Always having a weak defensive stat really hinders it. What makes aegislash pretty good in the first place is king's shield being a mostly safe way to change form while being slow enough to often attack last so to not be punished by the poor defenses. The redux form still has slow speed but has the problem of always having an exposed weaker defense which really kills it in doubles and in general. It also deals around the same ammount of damage if not less than the base form. There is almost no reason to use the redux form.

How they work in practice: Redux Aegis You aren’t wrong when you say this thing is extremely fucking weird… But this thing honestly would like to only focus on one side, likely physical, since it actually has boosting on that side in swords dance. The thing’s actual calling would be as a trick room attacker: low speed, high physical sets and its kit allows it to work extremely well in that core. Original Aegis Base Aegis is going to be trapped in uubl purgatory: It will never be ou despite its traits on accounts of ghold being the much better ghost/steel type Mon, especially with all it got. But it is NEVER going to drop to uu, since it would likely warp the tier to it’s will on the fact that it’s utterly unkillable, between it’s immense bulk and shadow shield. And just when you thing you have answers to a roided subtox variant, it reveals to be choice banded and proceeds to gut most everything like a pig with keen edge boosted assaults. It even has levitate to remove one of it’s more common weaknesses

It's hard to say I was disappointed because it's a free game and there is SO much creativity with this new form. But I think for a game that solely is designed around battling, I do find it underwhelming. I also don't think the game explains how it works very well, which lead to a hell of a lot of confusion early on.
