Redwing Pecos 866 and Nicks Renegades

Manny, you're tempting me to get a 8" Renegade with a wedge, those came out great with the resole! It's gonna be close to 120 this week here in Phoenix and 6" has been my limit this year. Maybe I can be their guinea pig for a 6" wedge Renegade. lol.

Great post, Manny. Very clear and good explanations. I love the latigo. Man that's gorgeous leather. I winced big time at the cut...yikes. I have a pair of Redwing Pecos boots, too. However, mine are model 1105 and 11" tall. They are 10 years old and have a black sole.

@@MIIIB I don't wear those Pecos boots very often. The sole is easy to clean compared to my other boots with vibram soles so I wear them when I think they'll get in the mud or when I just need to put on some boots in a hurry for a short time like checking the rain gauge after a good rain. I'll email you a couple of pics of them just for kicks. 🙂

I have 12 inch lace ups, Found them used. they really grew on me i like them a lot now. Im used to 10 inch tall

Hey brother!!! Yes, I do. It dosen't hurt me, but I feel the rubbing. It's very typical; you can feel the thickness of the vamp.

Did you go a half size down on your renegades compared to your laced Nicks boots? I’ve seen them recommend that to help with heel slip.

I do the same size with all my Nicks and Whites. They fit me good with no problems. A bit of heel slip natural of any pull on boot.

Block heel with normal height buddy! Hope this help. It looks a bit taller, but it's the heel pad thick, last HNW

i have to agree with you on the 12" Wicket and Craig Renegades. they are comfy even in very hot weather. I was worried about the comfort, break in and heel slip but it turned out they are even more comfy then my Builder Pros (with easy break in 1964.leather, which is much softer and perfect for people that don't want a long / or any break in).

What size comparison between 866 and '64 brown Nick's? Which size are you in both and how close are they?

Hello friend! Looking at this comment a bit late, and apologize. In the 866 I do 9EEE, and the 64' Renegade I do 8.5EE. The 866 I feel like I can do 8.5 EEE, too, haven't tried it, but I'm sure since I use thick socks, the Renegades I can use think or regular socks without a problem. I consider more comfortable the Nicks than Redwing, but Redwing feels good, too if you add a thin insert. I think Nicks has more leather under the Bedsole and helps to cushion you, and Redwings is just 1 thick layer and cork so may feel a bit stiff.

How will you condition the Oiled Latigo? Witch what kind of oil/conditionner?

I use Obenaufs oil brother. Is not that heavy like the Redwing .
