Gregory Milik This is why many players fail to get to the top level in the English game. They get hyped too early and feel as though they've already made it and they consequently don't push on to the level that they might have reached. Idiotic media as always.

You people dont understand, the boy is 16 bruh, not 19, not 20, not 21, but SIXTEEN. What the fuck where you doing at the age of 16, school, watching tv, doing homework. If you was 16 would be able to have a 95% passing rating and lose the ball once against one of the best sides in England in Arsenal. Thats mind boggling, that basically a kid showing up a grown ass man, in Mesut Ozil.

Andrii Grygoryshyn basically it went like this: 1) Fans saw West Ham beat Arsenal 2-0 2) Fans saw a 16 year old in the West Ham starting XI 3) Fans picked out the biggest name in the Arsenal midfield 4) "Reece Oxford had Mesut Ozil in his pocket the entire game" 5) Media bites and hooks their hype train to it 6) Media calls him the "Next Ferdinand" or something like that 7) Has a crap game against Leicester City, subbed off at halftime It's the typical cycle of the England hype machine.

C'mon lets not over hype this kid. Ive always thought that a ball winning midfielder is the least technical role in football. You need to be able to mark up, run a lot and be decent on the ball. You must be able to play the simple passes but not much more is required. Even Phil Jones has excelled in this position in the past. Oxford played well, not man of the match well or ozil in his pocket well (he tackled ozil once) so despite a very impressive performance from a 16 year, id like to see a lot more technical improvement before getting excited. His future is probably in cb so really we havent learnt much about him

Exposing his Facebook profile, leaking stuff from a kid, comparing him to others. He's a kid, he watches this shit and it clearly hit him mentally you could see it vs Leicester. Now they've signed Song and we'll most likely rarely hear of Reece Oxford for a long while.

I just don't get why people made it so it sounded like he was the one stopping ozil the whole match. He made probably about 2 good stops on him, but really it was a group effort in the midfield that halted arsenal. They defended as a unit, parked the bus at times and knew when to break. That's why they won.

You know I find this video particularly interesting because Bilic said about keeping Reece protected from the media hype and unrealistic expectation fans put on young players. This video has done the exact opposite. The guy has one 'good' game (yes he's 16 well done to the lad) and everyone goes on like he's the next Gerrard. One of the reasons I think English players suffer with pressure particularly more than most foreign players, is because of the ridiculous expectations put on them from a young age. Creating hype like this doesn't help a player develop whatsoever, if anything it hinders it. People start to expect too much too quickly, and over criticize the player because of the expectation unfairly put upon them. This, a lot of the time, leads to them losing confidence in their ability and falling out of love with the game. English fans need to calm down, we literally make ourselves a laughing stock by overhyping these young players so much, and it's literally because we haven't got that many to hype up, It's embarrassing. All that aside good luck to Reece Oxford I hope he does well and keeps working hard, then hopefully things will come for him. But for now I'm not going to acknowledge him as a 'wonderkid' because he had one decent game.
@CarbonitePlays9 жыл бұрын
I really think calling him a wonderkid and saying he's the next big thing, at such an early stage in his career (and based on a single good performance against Arsenal) is dangerous...this is the kind of media pressure we put on so many players who have crumbled under the mantle of "the new wonderkid". I hope this kid can cope and develops but let's not be piling too much pressure on a 16 year old far too early...
