@95bochamp6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. I am really smart. And, I understand the Rules of Golf, as well as the rationale behind them. They made the rule to cover all situations rather than a series of separate rules to cover specific exceptions. This way, there is no judgment about whether a given situation is an exception. Either the ball is in motion or it is not. There is no consideration about whether 'the hole is over' or anything else. Then, the rule is applied appropriately. All of this could have been avoided if Spieth had just demonstrated a bit of patience.

Everyone saying "dumb rule". The rule needs to be black and white - you cant touch an opponents ball in motion. Period. Okay fair play the ball wasnt going to go in the hole, but at what parameter constitutes that? What if in another scenario the ball passes the hole but could have used a slope behind it too feed it in? Can an opponent knock it away saying it wasn't going in? Sorry.. but you can't have a grey area on this issue. Before anyone says 'common sense, the ball wasnt going in', needs to realise that you cant have your opponent making the decision that your ball won't go in the hole. No matter how obvious it might be.

The putt was for an eagle and would've won the hole, so when it went passed then the best that player could've scored was a birdie but because his playing partner had already score a birdie himself, Speith stopped the ball as if to say take a birdie as their best score on the hole and Speith and his partner both had birdie puts to tie the hole. Yet because Speith interfered with that moving putt then his side automatically lose the hole and do not get the chance at their birdie putts.
@chinaman14 жыл бұрын
@@seanscanlon9067 oh, so Oosthuizen didn't make the birdie, Spieth picked it up because he assumed his partner CAN and WILL make the birdie?
@seanscanlon90674 жыл бұрын
@@chinaman1 No Oosthuizen was actually going for an eagle with his putt that Speith stopped and could have only made a birdie at best with his next putt, but since his parter had already made a birdie anyway, Speith stopped Oosthuizen's ball thinking that Oosthuizen and his partner would go with the partner's birdie as their score on the hole. Yet by Speith stopping the ball, that automatically gives the hole to Oosthuizen and his partner, without giving Speith and his partner the chance to putt for their birdies to half the hole. If he had just let the ball come to a stop by itself and then conceded the putt, then Oosthuizen and his partner would both have had birdies but essentially only offered one of those as their score for the hole (assuming it was best ball score) and then Speith and his partner would have been allowed to take their birdie putts to see if either of them could have made those for a half on the hole.
