They were also on the 24' bass drums...The 12 13 14 rack toms & 16 floor tom were equipped with Evans Chrome 2 ply "Rock" drumheads that are not available anymore. Just thought some of you would be interested in some trivia regarding Peart's drum set after the Chrome set was given away in a contest.

I never knew Neil played a chrome over wood Slingerland! I've had a set since 1994. Used to be a 7 piece, but is now a 6. 5×14 chrome over brass (had since 1987) 8x12 9x13 14x14 16x16 14x22 My first good kit was a 60's black Singerland I got for my 14th b day in 1990. I gave that to my old singer. My old guitarist had the other chrome bass drum, and a 12, 13, and 14x10 toms. Back then I was into guys like Lars, Porcaro, Vinnie Colaiuta, and Gene Hoglan. I'm a late bloomer to Peart, even though we used to cover Dreamline. Great times man! Great playing by you, Reed!

Remember when that drum kit seemed huge? When compared to Neil's later kits, "chromey" looks really small.
@iowadrummer794 жыл бұрын
Indeed! Most of it is because his later and current hardware is so much more heavy duty and bigger, and there's just more of it. His drums aren't quite as tightly packed together as they were back then either. Plus add in all the electronics and such hardware. Funny thing is too - Neil was a pretty big dude, I love all the pictures of him behind this thing, he towers over it. His current kit seemed to fit him perfectly.

I just checked out some of your videos. Great job. That's so cool that your are taking care of that kit. It still looks and sounds amazing. You have the kit I used to dream about having when I was a kid. That kit has the inner-shells treated with fiberglass. Can you tell the difference compared to other shells, & can you see it? I always wondered about that.
@TheAnalogkid58 жыл бұрын
I would say the addition of the fiberglass provides a subtle change to the resonance of the shells. When you combine the vibrafibing and the thinner shells you get a sound that really projects especially with clear heads. I wish Evans still made non-hydraulic red heads. I know they reintroduced red hydraulic heads but the sound is too dense.
