Hi Gus, what salinity range are they safe with. What I found was so various that I'm scared to trust it.
@myaquariuminfo6 жыл бұрын
No need to add salt tbh🤷 I treat mine like regular freshwater fish 👍 have you had any issues?
@robertbock4096 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply. Before I bought these I was researching puffer fish and learned about brackish water and how they are sold as fresh but aren't. The salinity is all over the place on the net for the rope fish. I don't have any problems but I wanted to provide the most comfortable environment for them so they have a long and healthy life. In relation to the puffer it could shorten their lives is what I was thinking. I'm just going to max fresh water aquarium salt for health within the kribs and plants since the ropes can handle it. Thanks again for assuring me of no worries on the low end ppl. Ropes are the coolest fish!

One of aquariums seem to get dirty very quickly and I don't know why any tips on keeping a tank clean and also the best way to clean a tank? I usually put all the animals into a small tank and empty out the water and gravel outside spray it down with a hose and add new gravel, is this okay or is there something I'm not doing
@myaquariuminfo7 жыл бұрын
+James Miller What kind of tank and filtration? Also I recommend checking out my HOB versus canister filter video. I always recommend overkill when it comes to filtration. That should be done 1 or twice a year, but for the most part I would get a siphon and do that once a week. Here's the thing; you feed your fish everyday right? Think about it... You put stuff in there every day, but nothing comes out. It gets filtered yeah...but it's still exposed to the water. Days and weeks go by and nothing is coming out. This is why your tank is messy. Bigger bigger filter my friend. And as far as maintenance goes; siphon the gravel once a week and replace the water that comes out with fresh water. This will keep your tank clearer and water parameters in check.
@jamesmiller40547 жыл бұрын
Myaquariuminfo hmm a siphon do you mean like a turkey baster sort of thing where you squeeze and release it to suck up uneaten food and "other things" if so i have never even thought of that. Also i have four hob filters one for each of my three tanks. The last one i have sitting in a empty tank which i will most definitely set up tomorrow and since my birthday is coming up I can ask for some cartridge filters but unfortunately things are starting to get out of hand as there are now bugs and worms in one of my tanks, the brackish tank. It is the only tank that i have had trouble with "visitors" is it because of the salt? and every time i do a big clean i will still see one of two of them hiding away and then one day BANG the whole tank is over run with them. I can't stand the worms! Spiders totally fine clowns not a problem but parasitic worms nooooooooope😖🤢😱
@myaquariuminfo7 жыл бұрын
+James Miller No heh, but clever! Google "aquarium siphon" You can buy them at most shops. It's to help pick up poop and debris that accumulates in your tank. Also, how big are your tanks And how big are your filters? I would keep some feeder fish in the last tank to eat up the parasites!
@jamesmiller40547 жыл бұрын
Myaquariuminfo each of my tanks is ten gallons. The filter is the one that came with the tank i can hopefully find the exact type of filter tomorrow. I would do it now only its very late at night but I'm sending you this now because in the tank with the parasites one of my red claw crabs is lying on its back twitching but alive these are rare to find in the pet industry so I doubt you would know much about them but do you have any idea what's happening with her I'm panicking. I've left her alone and i hope to god its just a molt also because of these crabs and the fact that it is brackish water it will be difficult to house fish that will be able to munch all the worms thanks again for responding i hope I'm not bothering you with my constant questions
@myaquariuminfo7 жыл бұрын
+James Miller You definitely need to upgrade your filter. I personally use a 50 gallon HOB on my 10 Gallon and it stays Crystal Clear. Not know about them? Heh. I've been to the estuaries where they come from and I might even do a video on them (: And when I got in the water I also saw wild ghost shrimp. I hope it's a Molt as well, however; parasites are known to get into krabs as well. Since the tank is by itself..... why not drain it out? And start over.

My reedfishes seem to really go along well with my crayfish (cherax destructor) to the point where they are able to go underneath the crayfish, around it, above it - anywhere without the crayfish even attacking it or showing signs of aggression. Just yesterday, they were literally underneath the belly of the crayfish, but it didnt seem to mind. Mind you, the crayfish is a little larger than the average palm size and could easily deal some damage. Should I be worried? Or do I just have a really friendly crayfish?
@thekaizer6662 жыл бұрын
hey do you mind updating? were they always good with crayfish? i have a pair of crayfish, although they dont seem as scary or as big as cherax destructor's (mine dont have such gigantic pincers).
@puresomenessd21462 жыл бұрын
Hello! It has been about 3 years hahah, and both the cherax destructor and reedfishes are long gone, in favour of silver dollars. Anyway, from what I can recall, the crayfishes I owned were quite docile towards the reedfishes. Now its not certain if this applies to all types of crayfishes, or if this was a unique case, so I still suggest to exercise some caution when pairing both of them together! I did notice something, however. The reedfishes would sometimes get very close to my cherax destructor, even going in between both its pincers. And by very close I mean basically lying next to it. My crayfish didn't seem to mind 90% of the time, and would leave them be. Nonetheless, the other 10% of the time, it tries using its pincers to get them to leave. Strangely however, I've never really noticed it fully clamping down, or directly pinching the reedfishes. Definitely feels more like a friendly, "Go away dude" type of gesture. Which would also explain why these reedfishes keep on coming back to hang out near it. Again, this is just my experience, so take it with a grain of salt! Perhaps you could ask others on the web to see if they had a similar experience :)

Jocelyn Villegas Rope fish are very friendly, they should sometimes be calm if you touch them, i mean people even hand feed them. Yours sound fine, they can be lazy or active, some days they just seem to wanna chill more then other days, it's natural. They've adapted to their environment, it's good.

Good video; I did like it. However must point out that rope fish are not necessarily reliable snail eaters. I’ve kept multiple of them (used to have 5, currently have 3) for over a decade now in planted tanks (always have some snails) and have never known them to eat snails. Small fish and shrimp, absolutely. But not snails.
