Another informative edition , the channels growing 👍 Q: Have you ever experienced the parasites ich or velvet ?and what’s your opinion on UV sterilisers??

Hey Aussie D, I have only had a few cases of ich over the years, and got through them with the health of the fish. (None in my nanos). I do recall one time removing a hippo tang to a quarantine tank and medicated with Seachem Cupramine. As I recall that worked well. But in the other cases I let the fish ride it out. I did have a UV sterilizer for a time on my 250 gallon, as a preventive for parasites. After a few bulb changes I decided to disconnect. Saw no real difference. 👍🏻WCW question 😃good one. Ps. What I really thought was cool, was ozone reactor! Talk about clear water. 👍🏻😃but only for a while for that too. 🤪

The only thing I can think of is using natural sunlight. If your refugium could be located next to a window? Other then that IBEW, you will need some source of direct light, even if it’s just a single florescent bulb of some type. Can I ask why you don’t want to light your fuge?

I currently have a 20 gallon IM nuvo with a separate 8 gallon sump which I have a skimmer, Algae reactor and a heater. I had some old marco rocks that did nothing but grow hair algae. Got rid of the rocks and now have nice caribsea life rock arches. Chaeto is growing really well, feeding corals every few days. And I got 3 hermits a couple weeks ago also and they are cleaning whats left of the hair algae on some frags etc. Almost completely algae free now. Next is to set up my doser and get auto water changes happening.

If you do big water changes and still have high nitrates you have something dead in your tank, probably in your substrate

I have heard that acclimated mollies make a good tang substitute for small tanks. However, I wouldn't try it in anything but the lowest energy tanks again. Every attempt left me with bullied, dead mollies. They aren't used to the high flow and aggressive sw fish.
