I’d say for definite the 2000 size is better for casting . That said it also matters rod length. 6-7 foot I’d go with 2000 . Less than 6 feet I’d go with 1000 . But definitely 2000 casts further and retrieving is better . Great videos . Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪 Tony

Dear Victor please end my misery, do you think the 9’ presso ultra light would survive trout trolling? We regularly catch cutthroats 18-24” 3-5 pounds. My current go to rods are a 9’ 5/6 weight fly rod and a 7’ med light shimano convergence spinning rod. The spinning rod isnt as supple as my fly rod though and i kinda want to see how light i can get away with. I dont totally hog the fish in, i do fight them and let them run. I agree that is the fun of it but i dont want to be too worried im gonna lose the big one cause my rod snapped. Thanks

I think the 9' Presso is the ULTIMATE trout trolling rod. There is no better rod on the planet for that. It will fight a 4 pound trout perfectly fine, loaded beautifully. The only thing you have to watch is the drag. U need to make sure u use around 0.5 lb drag while trolling. The only thing that can break the rod is YOU. If you forget to losen the drag and snag somewhere, or catch some catfish or something..

Two questions regarding interchangeability Victor, would a Shimano C2000 spool fit a 1000 body in the Shimano range say Vanford? Wouldn't the rotors be different between a 1000 and C2000 reel? I have a 1000 Vanford and want to buy a separate spool (C2000) from Japan and want to know if I'll have issues with fitment...
@ifishcatfish Жыл бұрын
it will fit, look how much extra space u have under the rotor. It is the travel that is important, but because the body is the same, the travel up and down is the same. The only reel that i know that has a different rotor is the Vanquish. Maybe some stellas... However even on the Vanquish i still think the spools are interchangeable because the travel is the same. Just found this video. I have a Vanford C2000SHG and bought it because it is ”compact”. The salesperson told me it means the body is the same size as 1000, which is technically correct, but what is the difference to non-compact model? How is it smaller?
@ifishcatfish Жыл бұрын
there is no noncompact 2000 model. They are all 'compact'. On one had it is redundant. On the other hand, it is like a tag for all reels where the body is one size smaller. C3000 means 2500 size. C5000 means 4000 size. In their defense it is difficult to put size of all components into one model number. Same body size can have different spools and even different rotors. There are 1000 size body reels with 2500 size rotor (C2500SHG). How do u put body/spool/rotor and gear size in one number? Even if you do it, it will be confusing. The only way would be to report them separately

My 7’6 UL bass pro shops airstream ptc absolutely launches a 1/4oz kastmaster across a lake. It think its slow action. Pretty good backbone and bending curve. Beautiful rod only $60. The only problem I have is the weight of the rod coming in at between 4-5 oz and the guide inserts are just the stainless steel material of the guide. I use 6lb mono on the rod so I’m not concerned about creating any notches in the guide, and tbh I don’t even know if braided line does that anymore either. It just feels a little cheap. All the small details and nitpicking that we do comes with experience. You can only line twist so many times before you start cursing daiwa for putting a bushing instead of a bearing. Priced at $60, $80, $100 and $130, in sizes 1000 and 2500, and look to be based largely on the equivalently priced versions of the Daiwa LT spinning reels themselves ($60 Regal, $80 Exceler, $100 Fuego, and I’m not sure what Daiwa model would come in at $130). The $60 model actually has a thread in handle instead of the hex shaft with a screw cap. Bearing counts on them seem to be higher than the same priced Daiwa (except in the Regal price range), they are as high as 11 on the upper end model. Also, the highest priced one at $130 shows a photo of it having a cork handle and a super shallow spool but the line capacity specs seem like it would hold a more normal amount of line. Just thought you might like to know.

@@jso275 Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any service that can remove Magseal from an existing reel to make it lower inertia. To clarify, the custom I was referring to wasn't a customized reel but the FCLT (Finesse Custom Light Tough) series within the 18 Exist family (ex. FCLT1000S-P). I have heard of a few finesse Daiwa LT reels without Magseal currently available: DSLT-2000SS (a thread on TackleTour says it might be a tuned 2020 Luvias LT) and the 21 Presso (caution: a few early reviewers reported inconsistent quality between reels). If you are looking for a great low-inertia reel in general I'd recommend the Shimano 19 Vanquish (plus Victor has thoroughly characterized this reel on this channel so you know what you are buying). If you want the best low inertia reel possible I'd wait for the next gen Vanquish or FCLT 22 Exist lineup to be released. Definitely will be a very pricey option, though. Note: Apparently the FC designation doesn't guarantee that all the Magseals are removed. The Luvias Arity spec page says that the FC model still has a Magseal on the pinion gear.

if you are talking about casting a 1 gram jig, i don't think what you are describing would make a measurable difference. I also use the buy the lowest gear ratios I could find but I hated the fact that the handles were shorter, so I stopped doing that as well. In my experience longer handles = lower inertia :)

Victor nice explanation. Looks like an awsome reel collection. Did pick up a newer 2000 size Shimano Complex already had a 2500 size. Now if the rod ever arrives! Lloyd like you can expand in your new office, think your son will like the size of it later on. Hope weather is nice!

TY for the intersting video! This season I plan to switch from Vanford 500 to Vanford c2000s reel for slightly bigger weights, smth around 1-1.5-2 gramms. If we would try to compare both of them side by side - there is a significant difference in sizes of spools, plus c2000s has different type of mechanism inside of the reel. So I guess it'll be interesting experience for me!)
@ifishcatfish2 жыл бұрын
yeah, the 500 doesn't have a worm gear to save weight. For me the 500 is strictly for ice fishing. To use it for regular fishing... u would have to use extremely thin line, or the coils will drive u nuts.
@Flarito2 жыл бұрын
@@ifishcatfish nowadays in Russia becoming popular great kind of fishing so called .’mormishing’. Its extremely lightweight discipline. Usually it starts from 0,05 grams to 0,8-1 grams. 500 size is cool for that purposes!

Realistically, IMHO, if we want efficiency and fun during fishing, its best to have a balance set.. that is, understanding the best pairing between you Rod - Reel - Mainline - Leader - Lure for your target fish. 1000 v 2000, the difference may not be necessarily felt significantly during actual casting or hook up. Only Things that will change / increase slightly are - spool size, resulting in increase of line capacity and casting distance.
@ifishcatfish2 жыл бұрын
even that assumes that both spools are equally deep and filled all the way to the top

No. What I mean that you can take ANY PART from one reel and put it on the other reel. ANY PART, NO EXCEPTION. I tell people no exception and they still ask me - what about this and that? There is no exception.

Love the video and glad you were able to provide excellent psychotherapy for the troubled. Loved that shot of the deer and salt lick. You should get a few more and attract a few more.... maybe a small herd. The more deer you have the more deer ticks you will have and....the better chance at Lyme disease. It's probably ok since your kids will not be playing outside much. I've starting to get into BFS baitcasting. It's tremendous fun but addictive.

HI Victor, Thanks for this Video! Gear ratios for Shimano models like Vanquish and Stellas would make a small difference I think.. I notice 1000ssspg are the only ones with low gear ratio 4.6:1 and 2000s only come in 5.1:1 and higher. 1000SSSDH also 5.1:1 but different handle. If your using hard baits it could make a difference keeping your lure on desired water column. But I could be wrong.. 😁
@ifishcatfish2 жыл бұрын
do u even fill your spool all the way to the top? Adding a little more line to your 1000 size spool would make it into 2000, if so you prefer. However I dare you to tell in a blind test if you are using 1000 or 2000

This is a 32" monitor with 4K picture. There is no space for 2 of these on my desk, and even if there was, i would have to move my head left and right 30 degrees. Alternative is two small monitors with 1080P but i can't see well on those, particularly for editing. For work i prefer two small ones, because detail is not important. but for editing i was a big monitor with high resolution. Try it and then go back!
