I was 7 years old when this show started. I am now 75 years old and I love watching it on You Tube. Yea for the 50's it brings back a lot of memories. My favorite character on the show was Kingfish because he was so funny 🤣 😆. He made me laugh so much. 🙂🙂😄😄🙂

Thanks for the great uploads! I lived through this era, that’s just the way it was, we never thought a thing about it. It was so funny, racism was never a thought in our mind. People who never lived through this time were the ones responsible for banning these wonderful programs. If the cast of “I Love Lucy” were black, I’m sure we could never watch those episodes either. No doubt, absolutely wonderful comedic timing and great acting. Kingfish and Andy were so great together (they were the black “Honeymooners “), and Amos was the voice of logic and wisdom. What a wonderfully talented cast! Imagine if you were told you couldn’t watch the “Honeymooners “ because they made fun of poor white people. To me, good acting and great comedy out trump the race card.

It is such a shame. The NAACP was all for getting the show taken off air. None of these actors were recognized as the talented people the were. This is probably the greatist sitcom in history. Nothing to compare to it since

All the characters on this show were very good & funny, but Lightnin' was the real reason the NAACP targeted this show bc he was a direct portrayal of Stepin Fetchit. And Stepin Fetchit was reviled in the black community.

After all the years of watching Amos & Andy, this episode made me realize that it’s not so much Kingfish as it is King Fish (leader of Mystic Knights of the Sea). It’s not a name, but a title.

My great-grandmother bought her first floor model Zenith television in 1952. She would bake tea cake cookies and invite all the neighbors that wanted a bit of home entertainment. On Saturday mornings, our living room floor was real popular with all the children. Thanks so very much for the memories Reelblack. 💖

Terrific actors, each actor was talented beyond description, I watched this show back in the early fifties, and now have the entire series on DVD, including a couple of old radio programs. They all seemed to love their roles and enjoyed playing the characters. I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite, but Calhoun would be in the running, but then trying to pick a favorite would mean putting one actor above the rest and I do think that would be impossible.

I like this show. My family and I watched and laughed together. The stories were good and the acting was great. The problem with the show was not about racism. It was the characters. At that time in our history, Black America was struggling with civil rights and it was thought that the images portrayed here were a hindrance to the struggle. Many people would see these characters as the real deal. Since people have a tendency to treat you the way they think of you, it was determined to try to eliminate this influence. The actors on the show knew this and have commented on this. The decision to withdraw the series was regrettable but necessary. Behind closed doors, however, Black people continued to enjoy the program even to this day. Today things are a bit different but still there is need to be cautious. When Obama was first elected president, there were those who were saying they were just like the Huxtables. It is all in the think.

Totally disagree, they portrayed prominent figures, Amos owned the cab company, Calhoun is a lawyer, corporate figures in every episode. It's obvious Kingfish and Sapphire lived pretty decently. It's comedy and it entertained many. During that time there were no blacks on tv and we loved it. What's the difference in them and George Jefferson? George was rich, he was a dry cleaner but he was also a character.
