In 1970, I was my first year of high at Belmont Highschool in Los Angeles, and we would listen to this song on our transistor radios during lunch. Those were really good days, the music always had a hint of life while wondering if the Vietnam War would end, or if us guys would get drafted for the war. If you attended Belmont Highschool in Los Angeles you couldn't get out of being drafted.

Melanie, the singer who performed at Woodstock in 1969 and had major pop hits with “Brand New Key” and “Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)” in the early ’70s, died Tuesday at age 76. News of the death came from her publicity firm, Glass Onyon PR.
