Musicianship and time; he put the standards and are very high for any follower! Probably the best, for me yes, blues harmonica player in time, but he is among the few, of any kind of music, that exceeds the limits of the kind of music he use to play. It was known that he didn't have any problem of jumping on the stage to play, with, for example Dexter Gordon! The most musical of all!
@marymichael1211 Жыл бұрын
What?! My favorite blues musician Sonny Boy Williamson on harmonica played with my favorite jazz musician on saxophone!? I saw the Sophisticated Giant play many times, but never Sonny Boy. Do you know when and where, and if it was taped or filmed? There's an album of Sonny Boy Williamson playing with The Yardbirds.
@georgemineos Жыл бұрын
@@marymichael1211 It happened in Milan with Gordon, I don't know when, for sure in '60s. There is also an album with the Animals, same period in UK, another one with Brian Auger, Jimmy Page, Joe Harriot, Alan Skidmore and others, a jam session in studio, just before leaving UK for USA for the last time, after some months he passed away. Especially in the album you can see his skills in playing with jazz musicians, it's one of my favorite albums. Before passing away he was meeting with "The Band", social meetings in the US South. He has been a great influence, same as Muddy Waters, for the young British musicians. These two paved the way for the rock stars of '60s in England. The album with Yardbirds, is a real masterpiece.
@marymichael121111 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for all of this information. I saw Dexter Gordon play a few times at Keystone Korner in San Francisco after he returned to America. At the end of the set the 6'5" Sophisticated Giant would take a deep bow and extend his saxophone lying lengthwise out in front of him. I never had the opportunity to see Sonny Boy in person nor at all playing until gratefully the technology to see videos. I know that the blues, especially Muddy Waters, was an influence on British rock but I didn't know that Sonny Boy travelled around and played with so many, and jazz and Dexter Gordon! Each had such a different and distinctive mesmerizing musicality, sophisticated style, and classy character that it would be a unique experience to hear and see them together playing live. I'll just have to imagine it, and enjoy what is available. Thanks again. 🎶✨
