Thank God for the Europeans who respected the music enough to record it on film, tape et al
@georgiosminaios2864 жыл бұрын
According to BB King, this the first footage of a blues musician, showed in US Tv nationwide. 1965 I think. Europeans, correctly, were advanced in this. Irrelevant with the video, but Sweden had established its jazz academy in Stockholm university in 1929!

I got to learn of blues artist such as, Sonny boy, Elmear James, Willie Dixon,. Muddy Waters, etc, etc, via, the Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, The Animals, Van Morrisons Them, Rory Gallagher, Zeppelin- and more. We're Conservative American was playing the music down, the Europeans played the music UP. Thanks to, such as, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Fats Domino, and the Beatles for opening the music up round the world and must also include the seminal "Heartbreak Hotel" by Elvis Aaron Presley. The music world owes a lot to those early Blues, Rhythm an Blues/Rock an Roll artists.

Here in Belgium we were blessed with all the black jazz and blues musicians in the 60s. They were treated and respected here as artists and happy to be out for a while of racism. At least that was what Nina Simone told me in 1965.

This is Sonny Boy Williamson II, who was born Alec (Aleck) on 5th December 1912 or 1899,. Williamson was such a mystery that no one truly knew his actual date of birth, he is often confused with John Lee 'Sonnyboy' Williamson from who's name he took for no apparent reason, but that didn't detract from his talent as a great Harmonica player.

SKILLS, SUBTLETIES, and SWAGGER!!! The man was _not_ attractive, but he could have taken home any woman in the house! My absolute favorite of the old school players! I once read a story about his recording sessions with the Yardbirds. As I heard it, before starting, he asked them, "How many measures in a 12-Bar Blues?" They paused for a moment, likely thinking, "This guy's crazy; the answer is in the question." He then finished with, "As many measures as I put there!" This video is a splendid example of that "free time" approach...and the fact that his back-up band wasn't ready for it. Then, there's the whole Junior Wells thing. Sonny Boy II wasn't the greatest player in the history of the Blues, but he was damned sure one of the greatest characters!

We can take care of ourselves, and this will get better, if the powers that be would stop stealing our lives and culture!! Have you forgotten who gave us the Blues, in the first place?! Once, when I was on tour in Brazil, there was a church across the street from the hotel where we were staying, out of curiosity, I went across the street to read the placard that was displayed on the church property!!! What I read was disgusting, to say the least, what I saw was even more discusting!!
