Wow… Spector was unbelievably unpleasant, even at the height of his career. Eartha Kitt on the other hand, what a wonderful person she was.

OMG! I read your comment, then watched what you were describing, instant creepy goosebumps! Specter made me uncomfortable the second he swaggered out from behind the curtain with his "I'M ROCK ROYALTY" walking stick. 😮

Damn, I feel kinda sorry for him. Eartha’s right-he’s terribly sensitive, completely unable to have a genuine laugh at anything. It’s almost childlike the way he stares at the table and mutters quick insults under his breath then pretends he’s not mad. At first I thought it was his quirky genius eccentricity but when you know about his childhood history of being bullied by his peers and tormented by his mother it reads more as a consequence of his painful insecurity. The way he jabs at her like saying the Righteous Brothers don’t know her nor did Socrates…can’t help but feel sorry for him even if he’s an arrogant asshole.

Dylan didn’t tend to pull guns on , and eventually murder one of several young women he dragged home from bars. Phil may have been sharp in the music business, but he was batshit crazy when it came to rejection.

You can feel that underneath forced wittiness, he's struggling to appear superior and larger than life. We know how this young man on the screen ends so maybe I'm just reading into things but there's this weird vibe about him. He seems to be nervous, anxious to prove his superiority and is trying to be in total control-- that's why he's annoyed with Eartha. These kinds of personalities are fascinating because they feel inferior to everyone else and superior at the same time. They always try to prove themselves and everything is competitive, even interviews. He's trying to get the last word at all cost, nervously trying to appear nonchalant.

He was not sensitive, he was arrogant and rude and self absorbed.

He was arrogant, rude and self absorbed in order to hide his sensitivity and insecurity. It was noticeable towards the end when Eartha was asking him what he was so sensitive about... at that point he went off into a little monologue about abusing the intelligence of the audience. You can see from this interview that he clearly had a fear of women, which is probably why he resorted to brandishing a gun anytime he wanted to control one. It was also probably as a result of this interview that he got his reputation for being a weird-cuss. The problem from then on was the people that knew him or came into contact with him, made excuses for his antics believing it was 'just his way.' Nobody ever prosecuted him or tried to penalise him for the way he treated them until ultimately he met and murdered Lana.

Spector was a small man who tried to project an image of toughness or indifference but it never really came off. He just seems so awkward and defensive. It was like he wasn't going to wait for anyone to say anything negative about him, so he got in his barbed comment first.
