Please please update this content to include tips on if you fail to crop the cover photo for grid after making a small editing change......the reel cover pic will look great (but not the grid). Even though I can go in and change the reel cover after posting, it doesn't seem the grid post will ever be aligned (if not done correctly when posting). HELP Stephanie!

Hello Stephanie. I'm a new follower/fan. I would like to know what is "best practice" for IG reel cover photos - not how to make them, but what is best for funneling in your target audience? Should it match the overall reel caption? Should it be more about visual consistency with the feed? I know in my own "clicking" behavior, I tend to click on stuff with high views, and a cover photo that looks interesting. (even if the cover photo seems to have nothing to do with the video)!

I think you’re on the right track! Honestly a lot of it comes down to personal preference versus strategy. I prefer to use them to keep a more branded look on my feed. Think about this too: 99% of people who watch your reel will never see the cover photo!

Are you editing the reel inside the IG app? And it looks normal until after it is posted? That could be a glitch! Reinstalling might help.

Hi great video question my cover photo is a split second and then it’s gone but every time you replay the real it’s there but it only is showing for a split second. Is there any fix for that?

Cover photos are not really a part of the reel and are not meant to be viewed in the video! They're just to organize your personal feed. If you want a photo to stay visible on your reel for several seconds, you'll have to include it as an upload to the actual reel.

Hi Stephanie - I am creating reels in Canva and pushing the content through vistasocial. The covers are not showing up as they should. I wonder what the 'correct timing' is for the reel cover to transition so that it shows up on instagram?

Hmm there shouldn't be a timing issue since the cover photo is not actually a part of the reel. I would suggest scheduling your content in an app, but posting it manually to avoid glitches like this!

This is something that seems to be almost a glitch or new feature Instagram is testing where it will show your reels covers like this! But it doesn’t show it like that for the majority of users!

Yes!! I use later for my reels planning, absolutely!! Yes - you can toggle on post this reel to Facebook, but you have to do it when posting!!

I don't understand. The photos in the feed are square. But my reel is horizontal, and the format of reels are vertical. So I have no idea how my square photo will appear in the feed and how the video will look like in the reel.

Ideally your videos should be in the 9:16 ratio for them to look right as a reel!

SO frustrating!! Did you download the draft directly to your phone before posting?? If you did, you could quickly take down the post and try again!
