@@imogenmoonlight this is a insane take, i think you really misunderstand her character and the movie if that's what you think.... if she was only using them cuz she cannot play tennis herself she wouldn't have spent time with them before her injury lol. Tashi does love them, she truly did begin feeling for Art when he was expressing he was ready to retire. It just bothers her because SHE'S not ready to retire and she is playing through Art at that point cuz she cannot play herself, but that is her husband and the father of their child. If you think she has no love or care for him whatsoever that's absolutely insane.... And she did always love Patrick as well, which explains her having a affair with him multiple times. It's just Patrick isn't going to deal with her bullshit as easily as Art and he's more prone to fight back. Do you not see her expression when he storms out of her dorm room?? She was upset by him actually leaving her, which is what caused her to be off balance during her match that day. However, part of her blames Patrick for her injury because of their argument that day, even tho it's not his fault, it's just how our brains can cope with situations like that. Tashi finds confidence and security in tennis, it's all she's known since her childhood. It's how she took care of her family, made a name for herself, her injury ruined that, so she worked with Art which allowed her to fill that void through him, but that does not equal she's a heartless woman who has no care for these two men who she obviously does have feelings for, your take is outrageous .

i genuinely don’t believe art would view tashi sleeping with patrick as a betrayal. i think if it occurred to him that they could all be together they would be, but because they haven’t worked out how to be together healthily they all circle each other in this toxic way their whole lives. ultimately they really have an unspoken understanding of one another and they accept that that’s their dynamic. you see this in the way patrick got excited that art was meddling (they both truly love tashi, and truly love each other but art hasn’t confronted how he feels for patrick so pursuing her simultaneously keeps them together). the way patrick knew signaling with the racket would piss art off and light a fire under him and help him win for real. the way tashi says she’ll leave him if he loses but only says that because she knows that’s what he’s asking for from her, to apply pressure to motivate him. and yes she did go see patrick intending to sleep with him, but she’s also panicked that with art’s confidence so low (because she’s built up his technique but patrick was what built up his passion and fire and his love for playing and he needs them both) she’s maybe gone too far or he might not actually be able to win but she doesn’t want to lose their marriage and asks patrick to let him win. the way patrick even says, “sleeping with me would be one thing, but asking me to throw it for him would kill him” he even knows art would be able to get over them being together (i mean he knew about atlanta and let it slide so he’d probably just be frustrated that they didn’t include him if anything) he wants her to pressure him, he’d just be crushed that she doubted him to that degree. they all act in these crazy ways but it’s out of love and care and the adrenaline the three of them get from chasing each other and the thrill of the game. put it to you this way, if tashi sat art down and said “i slept with someone else…” he’d be devastated. if she said “…it was patrick” i think he’d say “…okay, we can talk this out. what happened exactly? tell me everything, be specific” lol

Both Patrick and Tashi realized that, although they were better players naturally, Art's work ethic/willingness to learn from others could take him farther than Patrick, if he had the right motivation. Tashi realized it from the start, and was rooting for him to find enough passion to beat Patrick by offering her number to the winner. Patrick knew that Tashi did light a fire under Art, and so while he couldn't find it in himself to actually concede/not fight his hardest, because that would be a betrayal, he used the cheating as a provocation to draw Art into potentially beating him truly on his own merit (might Art have gotten himself there, after drawing out a commitment by Tashi to leave if he lost? very probably, but playing on Art's anger is a surer bet than playing on his desire, even for Tashi). Now they're both playing at their best skill levels, with what they want lighting the fire under them, and Art may not even want to retire any more after this. Meanwhile, Patrick pleased Tashi by giving her the best tennis she's ever seen, and the first time she's really gotten to be part of the match since her injury (obviously she was coaching Art, but he never got to this point on his own). Meanwhile, it gives him a good audition and future chances to get back in both their good graces. But I'm definitely with Zuff that the daughter is conveniently aged for them all to have at least considered that she came from the Atlanta affair (whether or not that was the case).

I saw this in theaters 5 times, 3 alone and the other 2 with my sisters and let me tell you!!! this film is top-tier, and I love how each character intertwines into each other. The whole fire and ice name between Patrick and Art depicts a lot about their characters; Art is more receptive or rather a dog to Tashi, and Patrick is that temptation in a way. Where Art lacks in skill, Patrick overpowers with his overconfident presence. Tashi in a way ties the two, because she has or had what they lack in each other. hence why she’s over joyous in the end; they finally came together and understood what the relationship aspect is in tennis.

Art is the villain. Him and Patrick always share things, even when Patrick is doing most of the work like the first game. He didn’t mind because that arrangement works for the both of them. Remember when Art asked Patrick to lose the game and he didn’t mind. Until real stakes, where they can’t “share” like a date with Tashi was on the line, you can see during their first game against each other, how incapable Art really is by himself. When he got with Tashi, only because Patrick lost her, he became better at tennis with Tashi help still, not by himself. Tashi loves but resents him for being a loser. Patrick loves him despite being a loser. Art is a selfish loser who wants more than he is capable of earning by himself. If they all accepted this sooner, they would work perfectly as a throuple… but it got delayed because of the selfish loser.

This was so good. Also, very unique! You don’t see too many movies where three actors are the only actors in every scene.

i love this movie so much and i have watched it a bunch of times too no matter what it does to my nervous system lmao josh o’connor and luca guadagnino have said in an interview how these characters are trying to find their way to each other and chasing something akin to what the three of them had in that hotel room, and they do it in the worst way possible until the very end of the movie where they finally come together. it makes sense that art is the only character who we don’t see doing that since he’s so repressed and doesn’t really do anything he wants. actually, i believe it’s intentional that the only time he speaks for himself is when he tells tashi he wants to retire, on the same day he has that conversation with patrick in the sauna. and in the end, he’s “lit up” about patrick and tashi again and is able to play with passion. anyway: team throuple!

Yea it’s usually in the hair that makes em young and wild lmao, but at least they didn’t put glasses on em plus zendaya will realistically still look the same at 31 let’s be real so the hair being short is kinda accurate and a slay. Loving her blonde hair on press as well, she quite literally serving looks lol

I dunno if you guys saw Past Lives when it came out, but it was written and directed by Celine Song, who is married to the guy who wrote Challengers, and both movies are about complicated love triangle type relationships 👀 Worth checking out for that reason alone, but even without that, still a really great movie in its own right (completely different tone tho)

I loved the soundtrack! Trent Reznor has made some of my favorites, including Gone Girl.

I thoroughly recommend y'all check out "God's Own Country" as a reaction for one of Josh O'Connor's greatest performances. Truly its a superb film.

Great reaction. Oh man there was nothing like seeing at the cinema, omg. I've not been so invested, or forgetful of where I was then in that last 15 minutes. That slo-mo, that score, that ending. You had to be there. Oof.

My take was that at the end they all loved each other and that tennis was what brought them all together

“Do they need to fight or kiss?” They need to kith aggressively lol honestly did think they’d end up together but glad they’re friends again. Personally I can’t look past everything that happened in the last decade tho😂

I was WAIITINGG for this rxn and it’s so cute that Bryce picked this for his birthday, Happy birthday Bryce🥳! I was team Art until I watched it the second time then I realized that Art got in the way of Tashi and Patrick (even if they were kinda toxic) cuz if they had just ended up together, it probably would have prevented almost every issue that followed. Also Art is Ice due to his hesitation and submissive persona both is relationship and tennis whereas Patrick will STARVE for his tennis and had the passion that Art lacks in his tennis and in relationships. Just my thoughts. Love you guys 🖤

I've been hoping that you guys would react to this one soon bc it's ALL I've been able to think about since it got released, and you didn't let me down 😂 I've rewatched it so many times now and even though I KNOW that these characters do some awful things, I kind of love them all at the same time? They're just so morally gray and nuanced...and I LOVE their dynamics with one another. They're so, so interesting especially when it comes to how their relationships shift as the film goes on. There's so much you get analyse and pick apart with every rewatch. It's interesting to me bc I've never looked at Patrick as 'evil' or wrong for what he does at the end (even though I know that tends to be a common reaction for a lot of people). I don't think what he reveals ever comes from a place of malice, but instead from a place of wanting to light that fire up in Art again. He's always just wanted to find his connection and way back to Art (and Tashi) again. He knows that it'll get a rise out of Art and make him play to his full potential. Even Art recognises it too when they both smile at each other in the end. They've both missed each other all this time, and Tashi FINALLY gets to see that good fucking tennis that she's been craving since they were teenagers (and esp since her injury). I'm such a throuple enthusiast with this one bc their dynamic is the most exciting to me when they're all together for sure. Also totally agree with Bryce about Josh O'Connor!! I've been a fan of his for years, but I've grown to love him even more since Challengers. He really is just incredibly charismatic and so talented as an actor. I felt the same way every time Patrick smiled too. Every single role that I've seen him in has been so vastly different from the previous one (and so different to what he seems like irl). Just so excited to see him in more things :)

im pretty sure patrick is fire and art is ice. it’s so interesting bcs i feel like the reason tashi and patrick but heads so much is because they’re both fire and i think they’re both in love with art because they need the ice to balance them out!
@jesslyn68134 ай бұрын
so crazy that the shots of art looking at tashi are so unmoving and intentional during the flashbacks, but that one scene in the locker room just had the camera catching glimpses of her, like he can't stand to look at her when she's disappointed. Also, PLEASE react to bones and all, by this same director. It's so different but the vibes are still there.

Awesome reaction Rob, Bryce, and Zuff. One of your best so far. If you three are looking for another sports type film to react to I highly suggest, "The Iron Claw", staring Zac Efron, Jeremy Allen White, Harry Dickin son, and Holt McCallany as Kevin, Kerry, David, and Jack/Fritz Von Erich.

I would like to say that I’m pretty Art has 6 grand slams under his belt which would make him one of the best tennis players in history. So yes, whilst he isn’t in his prime in the present day, he was still incredible in his prime. Hope I’m right about the 6 grand slam part.

Aside from Patrick’s inability to be serious other than when he’s with Tashi he really can see her for who she is and he cares for art so obviously he doesn’t see them being a fit and could care less that art “stole” her since he knew what he was doing and wants to be his friend again
