Ric isn’t a vampire now because unlike many of the other vampires that died from instantaneous or untreatable causes (i.e. Ivy’s broken neck, Enzo’s consumption), Ric died from an injury that is relatively treatable (by Jo). In the time he spends inside of Mystic Falls, he is simultaneously getting his magic stripped away from being a vampire and slowly bleeding out which Jo is able to treat. He happened to have stayed in Mystic Falls long enough to have all of the vampire magic stripped away (just clarifying your confusion about why he didn’t revert back like the other guys)

You would think that all vampires that were stabbed when turned have a chance of a cure from vampirism by crossing the boarder, but when you think about it, if it can be treated then the vampire blood they had in their system before turning should be able to heal them from their stab wound.

Imo, this was one of the weaker story-telling moments on the show. No way, realistically, should he assume that she's just gone with no chance to return. At the very least, you'd investigate and try to confirm, but having him do that would interrupt the waste-of-time romance drama they wanted to explore first.

so the compulsion does not immediately disappear guys and her memories of damon were triggered by a specific event of when she realized she loved damon. so if she were to walk over the line she would slowly start to retrieve her memories but it would take some time to reverse all the memories she lost since it took them some time to change them all until they found the right one. By the time the compulsion is removed from her... she would drown to death. a lot of people see this as a plot hole but its the reason they made rics role in removing her memories so long and tedious... because they did not want it to be as easy as walking past the border for a second to get her memories back. rick didnt just have her forget something he removed her feelings for damon. when compelling someone you basically just have them forget the moment but for elena there was deep seeded feelings towards damon so removing a memory of him only removed that memory it did not take away her feelings for him so they removed one by one until she was finally honest and she told ric the memory that began her love for damon. that memory is what sparked her feelings towards him. without that memory she lost the feelings for him. Losing the feelings is what changed all her memories from understanding and love to just seeing the awful things he did. it makes since if you break it down on why it had to be a memory from the first time she realized she loved him making her have lots of compulsion taking memories away to ric becoming human and her not being able to just go over the border and get ALL the memories back because she would essentially die before she would get to that memory

Around 10 MILLION people get infected with TB every year and around 1.25 million DIE (unnecessarily--TB is curable), just not in the US. It's actually a health crisis. Also, there is a small TB outbreak in Kansas at the moment. John Green (the author of The Fault in Our Stars, among other things) has devoted the last couple of years to spreading knowledge TB and his new book about TB comes out in March.

jeremy is not dying in mystic falls because jeremy does not actively have magic keeping him alive. the spell on mystic falls which reverses magic only works on active magic such as a compulsion of someone it would undo the compulsion or vampirism which was created by magic and is still tech magic. someone with magic cannot go into mystic falls and begin a spell. jeremy was brought back with magic but that magic does not linger in him because it did not change him into something else that is magic itself. it just put him at his last human form. technically his hunter side is suppressed while in the boundaries of mystic falls. you will see at some point how vampirism and wolf bites are ... magic.

Actually no the white oak can’t kill Rick the spell Esther used wasn’t 100 percent the same spell, although it did make him an original vampire he spell was also Enhanced meaning no weapon can kill him he actually truly immortal and since Elena’s a vampire he’s no longer tied to her life. Just imagine the originals were already the strongest creatures to walk the earth back then then fast forward to a couple years and their still and actively known as the most dangerous and powerful creatures alive then fast forward to now and think about how many years it took them to acquire the level of strength they have now, no other vampire or werewolf stands a chance against any original now think about Alaric dude is 43 years old with the same power that’s of equal to Mikael.

Judging Bryce for that Liv joke. (/gently, jokingly) Werewolves can also resist compulsion, iirc- at least, the ones who have activated the gene (S1 Tyler pre-activation was able to be compelled). An exception that Mikael proved is that hybrids, despite their sire bonds to Klaus, could be compelled by other Originals because of their part-vampire nature. So Elena did kind of overlook one possibility in her Jo confrontation. The way Zuff saw what was about to unfold... yeah. I'm not a huge fan- I think Ric with Original Strength Vampirism was actually really interesting, and while I get the plot reasons (in the immediate, stymieing the chance for Elena to get uncompelled; making sure there are still life/death stakes for him in the future), there's a part of me that resents it. But, Esther killed Ric back in S3 by stabbing him (which I had forgotten). Regardless, it's an injury that can be healed through real, human means by stopping the bleeding (I'd actually say Stefan and Damon's probably could too, if you started working on them quickly enough- Stefan should look into that). With snapped necks (Ivy, Tyler pre-Other Side) or consumption/tuberculosis (Enzo) the problem is you can't undo the consequences on the body without magic- it's questionable on Elena's end whether you could undo the drowning with breathing apparatus, but I think she falls into the same category as Enzo and Ivy. The status of being a vampire is constantly using magic to undo death, and compulsion is also a constant presence on the mind, so those are active spells the barrier counteracts. The compulsion Ric did on Elena, however, was multipart and being inside long enough to break it fully would probably revert her to dead. However, a witch (like Jo?) can decide when to use their magic but isn't reliant on it to live so can be inside the barrier but can't use magic there (hence Luke and Liv at the end of S5), and the use of the magic ring to revive Jeremy and Matt was a past spell that acted immediately and then stopped determining their continued ability to live. It's not that magic can't ever have been used on- just that continuing magic will stop working. On Rob calling Stefan, Damon, and Enzo the three brothers: the writers did consider when introducing Enzo that he would actually be a third unknown Salvatore brother. They just obviously didn't go that route. I'll give Stefan credit for saving Enzo in the end for Damon's sake, but it's still ludicrous to me how little crap he gets for ratting out another vampire (who knew about all of them, and did ultimately lead to Elena and/or Caroline almost getting captured if they'd been there instead of Damon) to the hunters. Granted, Tripp found Enzo himself, and I don't blame Stefan for not letting Enzo kill Tripp in front of him back then (though these aren't things Stefan actually tells the others), but Damon was right that it's weird Stefan didn't warn him about the vampire hunters running about. I remembered Bonnie's cellphone messages- it's a poignant little grieving bit that really gets me- but I had completely forgotten that Damon lied to others so much about Bonnie's status. Like, I get why he's convinced Kai might have immediately killed her, but I do wish he was at least telling Ric (who wouldn't be as emotionally devastated as Jer if it fell through) and prioritizing finding leads on the Gemini in this episode to confirm it rather than treating it like a foregone conclusion.

Caroline has too much entitlement. (Yes she was hurt to have lost a friend) but… Stefan apologized, but she likes people to grovel or feel the guilt of upsetting her. Instead of taking a step back and seeing this man was in serious depression and grief, she's more concerned with the fact that he didn't instantly return her affections or put thoughts of her before all he was going through. As for Damon I feel for him because he was tired of hearing how bad it was for Elena. And she had everyone to turn to for grief. It was just HIM and Bon Bon. Alaric should have known better and followed his first instinct and just compel her to feel reduced pain over a shorter period of time. It irks me that he coddled her and gave her no s*** for erasing the good things about his best friend.

Uh, that's a weird take considering Stefan actively lied to everybody, ghosted his best friend, dropped of his newly-turned vampire ex gf on her and gave Enzo over to a vampire hunter, putting her in extreme danger by doing that and nearly killing someone she's friends with. The lengths some fans go to to defend the men on this show is baffling to me. Caroline has EVERY right to be upset with Stefan. Stefan's apology was literally "Meh, can't we get past this already?". Come on. I really like Stefan, but that's a contender for the least sincere apology on this show.

I think this clearly shows that Caroline was never his best friend, it’s always was more one-sided from Caroline. But Stefan knew Caroline had an obsession so he took advantage of that. :D

It's BECAUSE they are friends she said this, not because she feels rejected romantically. Also... Damon, God bless him, IS pouty and immature and his destructive tendencies whenever his love life doesn't go his way prove that. You're literally comparing apple and oranges, one has nothing to do with the other.

@@4Tom4lepus4 Apart from dropping Ivy on Caroline without notice, a lame move , true ( but a problem caused by Caroline and Enzo barging into his hideout in the first place,) , Stefan did nothing wrong. He was grieving Damon's death. And he needed space, time , solitude, anoynimity to do that. And without showing the slightest bit of understanding or empathy to Stefan, Caroline made it all about herself , and called him a dick , and acted like he was at fault here. So yeah , while she has reason to be upset with Stefan over Ivy, she was being very pouty and immature and self centred and bloody unsympathetic to Stefan's mental and emotional state here. As his friend, this was the time that she should've shown support snd solace . But no . She breaks off her friendship, because she wants more than just that. And her anger at him is also clearly that he doesn't have any romantic inclinations towards her. Which she so wants him to. More than her anger at the Ivy issue I'd think. At least , when Damon told Elena that he couldn't be just friends with her, it made sense given the situation.

Even though magic brought Jeremy back to life it’s not keeping him alive unlike the vampires that’s why the anti magic has no effect on him. Also, the anti magic took away all of Alaric’s vampirism so he technically died as a human for a few seconds from his injuries but Jo was able to keep his heart beating and brought him back that’s why when he goes back over the line he doesn’t go back to being a vampire he’s just human now.

He didn't die. He reverted back to his pre-vampire state, which was an injured human, and then Jo treated and saved him as a human. If he had actually died, Elena would've gotten her memories back.

Elijah temporarily passed away, and Alaric was cured of the vampire spell. Its mentioned in the next episode. Also, Alaric wasn't created like the rest of the Originals. That probably has nothing to do with it, but just something to mention.

Yes because he died. Dagger death is still death. Alaric’s compulsion would have gone away if he died But since he reverted back to human, it doesn’t remove the compulsion

And even going forward , I dont find any softness or warmth in her character that Jenna, and even Meredith had. And certainly less chemistry with Alaric than Jenna or Meredith had. Just my opinion.
