"Refs should have a higher tolerance" "If its not a yellow to a player..." Seriously? Can we get some refs in here. You can literally google the laws of the game and cite law 12 to see why both the players were sent off. Abuse of refs is a huge problem in the game. Both those reds were correct and the Union should get a fine for mass confrontation.

I have to agree. Chest bumping a ref without ANY verbiage is cause for dismissal. As for Bedoya's 2nd, he had already committed a professional foul. One that pretty much left him in "orange" status. What possessed him to even THINK he could commit another gamesmanship infraction?

There was no chest bump if you watch closely, just a brush of the hand...the chest bump is just the MLS talking point to make an excuse for a consistently poorly performing referee. No one seems to remember that Medunjanin had a Stoica red card reversed on an opponent last year after correcting Stoica on the field. Or that the VAR referee has never worked as a 1st official. MLS will never be a top their league without proper officiating and that is proven week to week.

With Bedoya's second yellow, what is not seen on the broadcast but live was the mob dissent to the ref after the penalty call lead by Bedoya, Medunjanin & Trusty along with some others. They surrounded the ref pushing him around with their chests not allowing him to move the game forward. He had to get real aggressive with them to move them out of the penalty area. That's when Bedoya decided push things further and step back into the area and it cost him. The ref at that point was pushed to his limit and had to respond.

actually they're right. soccer is a contact sport. thats why the rule states (as they said) if u make contact w the ball before making contact w a man, it isnt a foul. the game allows for lots of contact. there are just rules around it. what u say the defender shudda done is near impossible to pull off in the heat of a game. what the defender did do was follow through w his intention to win the ball and not play the man. which he did. which is the most u can ask of a defender in that position. and the ref blew the call. refs are just getting worse and worse it seems.

Yes, “but I got the ball” is a player and coach-fueled myth that just won’t die for some reason. The result of coaches that don’t know the rules very well creating players whose knowledge of the LOTG is half experiential, half urban legend. You can, literally, execute a perfect slide tackle, come up with the ball, and foul your opponent in the process.

Miggy Santos: You are incorrect. If the contact with the player is incidental to contact with the ball, and not excessive, then the referee MAY conclude it does not justify a foul. Not must. But that contact was not incidental. The ONLY way he wins that ball is by going through Josef's legs. That means whether he got the ball 1st or 2nd is irrelevant, he could not have avoided foul contact with the player, therefore it's a PK.
@shawngillogly6873

@JohnGlue Nor should have he. He attempted a legal tackle. He simply got too much of the player in the attempt. It's a foul. But not egregious. It didn't deny an obvious goal scoring opportunity. So yes, a foul. But not excessive force, reckless, or endangering the player. So no card.

Bedoya must have been banking on the fact that the ref wouldn't essentially send him off for not listening and delaying the game longer when everyone was already warned. Players and commentators/analysts need to stop thinking that 1st and 2nd yellows should have different thresholds to be given. If he was just given a first yellow for this, they would just say yea he delayed and can be given a yellow. Since it was his 2nd yellow they start to question and scrutinize everything about it. Maybe they should question Bedoya's intelligence to do this to his team in this situation. Stop trying to give players more room to show dissent without punishment when dissent is rampant throughout all leagues.

"because he got the ball first, it shouldn't have been a foul." NO. There is literally nothing in the law book that states if you get the ball first, its not a foul. For the play in question, the defender got the ball first, then tripped the opposing player by taking out his right leg. This is a foul! Also, if you're on a yellow and step into the arc specifically to delay a penalty, you are an idiot. Get a teammate who isnt on a yellow to do it. Second yellow totally deserved.

He ref in the Philly Atlanta game did brilliant. I don't really watch mls but i know the rules just so you know. The tackle was dangerous and not done correctly, correct decision penalty. Then the reds, he had all right to give the yellow and red for the time wasting player because he has been told, didn't move and then recivied punishment. He was trying to make Martinez second guesz where to go. The reaction I personally was surprised it wasn't a straight red, that is not how you should react as a professional.

He still cannot stand inside the arc to make Martínez wait to take the penalty. By rule he delayed the restart of the game by going into the arc, so he deserved a yellow card for it. Caleb Prowant the arm isn’t factored into offside since you can’t use your hand in football anyway..

Only legal body parts count when determining offside positioning of the body. So, entire torso, legs, head, and shoulders to the armpit.

The use of VAR for the 2nd pk was apparently wrong. I believe Stoica stopped play instead of waiting for the play to naturally stop or something like that. IMO stoica shouldve given a warning to Bedoya, its the 18’ and he’s letting the game get out of hand.

You don't get warnings for ignoring the rules, you get punished according to the rules for the violation you commit. It's up to the player to know the rules and abide by them and staying outside the circle/box until the ball is played on a penalty is one of those rules.

This really shows the difference between soccer here in America and soccer anywhere else. Refs call every little thing, in the MLS and the players just don't play as professionally as BPL teams or La Liga teams do.

Atlanta has a 2 man advantage for 70 minutes and only scores one goal in the run of play? And also lets one in? That game should have been 6-0. Ask an SKC fan..........

Honestly the ref who refed the Atlanta game and gave two yellows and a red I would do the same. I am a referee and well if I card a player for descent and they don't leave I'm going to card them again and send them off.

In the Portland vs LA game I do not think it is a penalty because I think the defender gets his body inbetween the ball and the attacker
@TheDrGoose
@TheDrGoose 6 жыл бұрын
Thewiseman the issue with the tackle is he throws his shoulder into the chest of the attacker. It’s almost a perfect defensive play I just think there’s a little to much force throw in. Definitely a tight call but that’s a judgment call that even var can’t really help.
@thewiseman5139
@thewiseman5139 6 жыл бұрын
Devin Mueller that’s a fair opinion but I just think that it is more the attacker running into the defender rather than the defender taking out the attacker but as you say it is a tight call
@TheDrGoose
@TheDrGoose 6 жыл бұрын
Thewiseman yup. Just a play that is on the line of foul and great defense that we just have to listen to what the ref says here. No matter what people will be upset with a close play like this.

When will you get it into your heads, just because he got the ball, if his reckless action continues to then strike a player from behind and brings them down off the ball, it is still a free kick!

Bobby doesn't know what he is talking about. If you a doing any form of dissent (yelling at the ref) you get a yellow. If you continue you could possibly get a 2nd yellow. Good call by the ref. In the galaxy-timber game, the defender does not play the ball.

imo there is foul. The defender gets the ball, ok, but then he gets Martinez's ankle. Getting the ball doesn't justify getting the opponent. Red cards justified, Bedoya stupidly playing with the ref's nerves, and Medunjanin definitely deserves that redcard for his unprofessional behaviour
