How do you get the dirt out of clay tho cuz I have a 10 foot hole I've been digging and I've tryed everyway to get the dirt out of the clay I don't think I will find no more clay in my whole but I'm making a koi pond with it

Hey did you try boiling it out? I’ve been asking the same question. We have two types of clay( I think ) on my property. A red sandy clay, and a white/blue pure looking clay like in the video. The red clay separated from the sand and settled in the bucket on the same day. The pure white stuff hasn’t settled and it’s been more then a day, and I’ve only done a small portion of what I have.

I'm really interested about refining and mining clay. but I don't know what to look for to spend the least amount of time to refine it... help will be nice. I really want to build with clay to wall in my mining holes.

Hello Gregory. It really depends on what your using the clay for. I am making ceramic pots with my clay. Thus I need a very pure blend. However if you are building a wall you need a type of clay with sand and silt in heigher proportions. There's is a if you look up building with adobe or earth houses, you will find something goes into detail on this. It's a complex process, but it really works. Alternatively you could make bricks and use those. You need some kind of pure stiff and a lot of temper, crushed ceramic or something else to hold the clay body together. But in terms of finding the clay, keep your eyes peeled for anything. The more gravel the harder it is to refine, so you are looking for pure stuff. If you can make a small coil out of the clay, and wrap it around your finger and it wound break apart, it's good stuff. Take some and begin the process. Just get some dirt time and begin. I can split the sand out but I'm having problems splitting the silt and clay? Mud brick from ths mix only shrank 5% air dried, is that good?

I do not know anything about mud bricks. 5% sounds good, but I don't know. I was using the clay in the video for ceramics, not bricks. In terms of getting silt out, I poured it off the top of my buckets with the water. You could also ladel it off. I don't know how diligent you need to be, I haven't done enough experiments. Get your hands dirty and good luck.
