a few suggestions, just water quench, no need to oil quench first. Hit it on the grinder afterwards to take off the carbonization and it will spark a lot better straight off the bat, plus they look better when you take the strike face to a 200 grit.

thanks for sharing this! It's pretty difficult to tell how exactly you're getting started, because your hands will go out of the camera view. Specifically, it's difficult to tell what you do after the first 2 knots are formed... Just FYI would love to get the full details, thanks again!

@matthewleach1368
@matthewleach1368 2 жыл бұрын
Hey did you try boiling it out? I’ve been asking the same question. We have two types of clay( I think ) on my property. A red sandy clay, and a white/blue pure looking clay like in the video. The red clay separated from the sand and settled in the bucket on the same day. The pure white stuff hasn’t settled and it’s been more then a day, and I’ve only done a small portion of what I have.

Try it though, I take the pulps and very literally only need 4 pulp "threads" to knot basically an open 4-loop knot before tying it all together. I'll send you a photo album of it in the comment below.

I've been wanting to get a legitimate katana out of the guys at Man At Arms: Reforged and knowing what Mortal Kombat Trilogy forward has taught me that There Is No Knowledge That Is Not Power... well, even a replica would be cool, however, modern katana are probably a lot more sophisticated than any replica... lol.

I have made a hypodermic needle from the pulps of young bamboo it's tumultuous but the system applied to steel maybe with a few tools to keep the metal from merging in the final process, you can make much smaller needles this way.

I have used cast iron pots as big as 3 gallon sized for aluminum. They usually last about 2 years if you do not put the pot straight into a blast fire. Slowly heat them and they will last. Much cheaper than crucibles. Use steel pipe fashioned into a crucible. They will last awhile with copper brass and bronze.

I'm really interested about refining and mining clay. but I don't know what to look for to spend the least amount of time to refine it... help will be nice. I really want to build with clay to wall in my mining holes.
@trenchforgearmory9764
@trenchforgearmory9764 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Gregory. It really depends on what your using the clay for. I am making ceramic pots with my clay. Thus I need a very pure blend. However if you are building a wall you need a type of clay with sand and silt in heigher proportions. There's is a if you look up building with adobe or earth houses, you will find something goes into detail on this. It's a complex process, but it really works. Alternatively you could make bricks and use those. You need some kind of pure stiff and a lot of temper, crushed ceramic or something else to hold the clay body together. But in terms of finding the clay, keep your eyes peeled for anything. The more gravel the harder it is to refine, so you are looking for pure stuff. If you can make a small coil out of the clay, and wrap it around your finger and it wound break apart, it's good stuff. Take some and begin the process. Just get some dirt time and begin. Good luck to you.

I can split the sand out but I'm having problems splitting the silt and clay? Mud brick from ths mix only shrank 5% air dried, is that good?
@trenchforgearmory9764
@trenchforgearmory9764 6 жыл бұрын
I do not know anything about mud bricks. 5% sounds good, but I don't know. I was using the clay in the video for ceramics, not bricks. In terms of getting silt out, I poured it off the top of my buckets with the water. You could also ladel it off. I don't know how diligent you need to be, I haven't done enough experiments. Get your hands dirty and good luck.

I am using a 25 com blower on the forge but nothing in the aluminum. I would recommend the use of a variable speed blower with more power than you think you need. If you don't need it it can stay at low. Thanks for commenting.
