New subscriber here. Just started stacking about a year ago and have taken an interest of everything precious metals. At the moment I have no Sterling but I would love to set up something like you have just to see those crystals form. I'm sure the video doesn't do them justice. Thanks for the content I'm sure I'll watch most of not all of your videos.

I have been wanting to attempt to remove plating from silver plate. watching your channel is inspiring and entertaining. I too am a carpenter with no knowledge of chemistry. I enjoy stripping wire and smelting copper into ingots for my own stack. Buying small amounts of silver from time to time seems to be the safest process for me. Anyway, ive been a subscriber for a few weeks now and look forward to your videos. Good luck with what you have found on your land.

Awesome, thank you very much for the kind words! I am currently working on plans for a silverplate removal video. I have a novel idea in this regard but I have to continue my testing before I make the video. So far so good though. Stay tuned, new content every friday night @ 8:30pm cst. God bless!

Thank you! Much appreciated. Since I made this discovery on our property I haven't had as much time to watch youtube but you have a very nice channel going as well. Keep up the good work. Oh ya, good luck on your entry to win the free silver.

That is a very direct and efficient method. I'll name drop your channel in some other fine metal refiners on yt. It will lower my odds of winning but that's the point! More viewers for this quality content. A suggested edit to the title would be adding TROY between 10 and OZ for clarification.

Thank you kindly sir! It has been a little hard finding quality information on the types of metals I found on our land. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks for the edit idea, VERY SMART!

Nice to watch your videos, I just suggest to you that you make the cathode using stainless steel container instead of the glass container, and the anode to be on a plastic on top to work as a cover for the stainless steel container with a hole in the middle where you can arrange the filter and the anode to avoid things from dropping in the electrolyte.
@anthonythomasfmg Жыл бұрын
I have used that method for a couple years now and it does work very well, no doubt. I put this cell together though to do something "a little different in the end" and also to be able to view the process as it was in service. So far it is out preforming the bowl cell in many ways. Longer filter life, easier to contain slimes, mid run clean outs are a breeze and the list is growing. Thank you so much for the comment and I am blessed to have so many people interested in my work.

Nice to see your videos from here in WI. I didn’t know that we lived in a state that had metals like you have on your land. I have some “silverware” not sure if it good enough to do what you are doing but this is really educating me.
@anthonythomasfmg Жыл бұрын
Very cool! Thank you so much. I have some silverplate to refine as well, maybe time for that video. This cell idea would work for silver plated items but you would have too much copper in solution with silverplate and would have to replace the electrolyte too often to be economically viable, but it will absolutly work on a small scale. Interesting fact... Wisconsin has two miners on it's flag and is one of the largest copper producing states in the country but hasn't issued a new mining permit in many years. The only way to get a permit in WI is by signing over your mineral rights to the state in an irrevocable land trust. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!

Just finding your channel. Loving the content man. Cant wait to get started in any part of metals and such.
@djcbanks Жыл бұрын
You are aware that if your silver nitrate electrolyte gets too saturated with copper it will begin to plate out with the silver too? I assume you are, you seem extremely knowledgeable, but I figured I’d ask. Anyway, I always enjoy watching other people and the interesting ways they go about refining precious metals and the setups they come up with. Your silver cell looks to be a little pain in the butt to have to clean out but I guess any setup has its pros and cons. Keep pumping out the videos, I enjoy the content and also would my mind getting my hands on that 10ozt silver bar! 😊
@anthonythomasfmg Жыл бұрын
That is a great point and yes I am monitering this very closely. I will have that information in my next video on the cell. I have been currently withdrawing electrolyte every few days and testing it for contamination as well as the levels of metal present in solution. In part one I alloyed into the silver some zirconium that I hope to extract from the slimes so I am doing my best to test, test, test. Time will tell...
@TheodoreMiller-w5c Жыл бұрын
I was wondering this same thing. Sreetips always dissolves the sterling in nitric acid and pulls the silver out of solution using copper, then pours off the copper solution. I believe if you skip this step you will get copper and lead crystalizing in your silver cell.

Cool video and like the design, interesting. I might have to try one like yours, I like the idea of the smaller filter located on the side. And awesome on the give away, supper cool. Best wishes in your youtube future.

Hi man, I am happy, that you and your YT chanell are doing so well. I see a lot of work, courage and commitment. End January I was your subscriber No.12, now you have more than 500... You have to do something right... 🙂 Grats... Rgarding the direct method, probably suitable for sterling, as there is not much copper. Here in Central Europe is silverware mostly 800, 19th century is 812-875, 900 is jewelery, sterling is rare, used just recently and in small pieces. I will have to get rid of base metals before electrolysis, or cell will be unusable soon. God bless...
@anthonythomasfmg Жыл бұрын
Hello Francis, thank you for the kind words! I can always use the encouragement. I have been burning my candle at both ends lately trying to get this thing off the ground. I am blessed to have this amazing opportunity! I haven't considered lower purity silver alloys as you have in Europe but I am testing a system that prayerfully solves this problem. Should have some more details in about one month. As always, God bless.

is the silver cell safe to operate inside of the house or does it give off harmful gases.
@Bigbopperairguns Жыл бұрын
What is the difference in purity? If you use peroxide, vinegar, sea salt, and then drain it in to powder, to melt it with Matt gas and Borax. What would be the purity of that silver?
@anthonythomasfmg Жыл бұрын
Like most methods it would depend greatly on your procedure. I have read about this method and it may be useful. Let me know how it works out for you. God bless.

Can you use this method for 50/50 Ag Cu ? What will happen with the copper?
@anthonythomasfmg11 ай бұрын
I like to stay over 50% but it will work. You will have to run it twice. Some of the silver will drop out into aspirator bottle and have to be rerun. Almost all of the copper will go into silver nitrate solution on first run. Second run should be pure.
@alparkopp11 ай бұрын
The scrap is Ag plated on the outside. The copper will be exposed only after the silver is disolved@@anthonythomasfmg
