So I tried disassembling a movement (Miyota 8200a) for the first time yesterday and when I was putting it back together I noticed that one of the stones had partially came out. All I had was a basic set of watch repair tools off of Amazon so I had to make a homebrew version of the metal plate shown at 0:34 to reset the stone. I took a washer, used a sharpening stone to flatten the surface and used an engraver to make a tiny hole for the shaft of the pallet fork. I then placed the pallet fork on it and carefully used a pair of tweezers to push the stone back in place. Afterwards I used a hot air rework station on the lowest air flow setting while holding down the pallet fork to reheat the Shellac. The watch still works but man that was stressful. Anyways I couldn't have done it without this video.

Really glad this video was helpful! Yes, it's a stressful job. The one upside is that if things go wrong, you can try again; shellac isn't permanent.

Hi. Remarkable. I discovered the soldering iron technique 2 weeks ago too while on an echappemetre.. And there you also use it.

What are the guides that you talked about? The ones you put on the screen?

Curious as well?

Thanks for this, Stefan! I just found your channel and subbed. Cool idea using the circuit board (no pun intended). Have you tried something like a wet rag to reduce heat transfer? How did the repair work out? Did the timegrapher show reasonable beat error? I messed up a pallet on a practice movement - forgot to avoid IPA and the jewels moved.

Thanks! I think the biggest issue with using water or the like to cool is the tiny size... consider that a drop of water would be about the size of one of those jewels... haha. I don't think it could really absorb and eliminate heat too well. Final result turned out nicely - had to adjust the pallet stones a couple times, but did get the perfect depthing after a few tries. yeah, IPA will force you to learn how to shellac a jewel. lol

@@sma1968 I recently messed up on a junk practice watch and forgot not to put a pallet in IPA. Although it was only in for a couple of minutes, the stones moved. Might see if I can reset them

How are you Stephen, I wonder is the microscope is auto focus or the camera , as I see you magnify the picture or minimise with no bluring , please answer me

the microscope is "par focal" which means that it will stay in focus as you zoom in and out. No autofocus.
