A short film documenting Juju/Oneness of Juju’s founder and saxophonist James “Plunky” Branch returning to the historical home of the legendary Brooklyn jazz venue and cultural center The East alongside Now-Again’s Eothen Alapatt in early 2019. This piece was filmed and edited by Josh Tyson-Fermin / josh.tysonfermin
In this piece, Plunky reflects on The East, its importance and legacy, and the cauldron of music now called “Spiritual Jazz”.
Now-Again issued Juju’s "Live At The East 1973'' in conjunction with Vinyl Me, Please in 2019. It is one of only three jazz albums, alongside Pharoah Sanders’ ''Live At The East;' and Mtume’s ''Land of the Blacks'', recorded at the venue.

My mentors and good friends Michael White RIP🎻 Pharoah Sanders 🎷& Ornette Coleman RIP🎷 played there.I had a close relationship with Michael white and Ornette Coleman. I miss them both..

It was a profound experience for me to work with Plunky and Egon reissuing these records and showcasing the beautiful paintings from the Black Fire archive! Great video explaining the importance of The East within the movement.

I was fortunate to have played at the iconic “East” with Norman Conners, Carlos Garnett, Pharaoh Sanders, and As a member of The Gary Bartz NTU Troupe. I was also a music spectator at whoever else I chose to go hear, being guaranteed it was gonna be a special Spiritual experience (not to mention the excellent food and juices, even the incense ), lol Brother Plunky so accurately narrated the feeling and the history of why the East was so special to all of us that walked through those doors. Thank you for this beautiful tribute. I will be purchasing my own (Non discounted) album as well, lol Much love to all those creative people involved, including those great spiritually connected audiences that supported us. Also, RIP those who are no longer with us, but remain in spirit.

How great it is Plunky that you have done this short film on the East! You captured the momentum and spirit of that wonderful place. I was so touched to see Lon Moshe's presence! What a sensitive, inspirational musician he was. I know that Baba Ndikho is smiling on you and yours! Siyabonga kaKhulu (we thank you very much)
