Serial No. 124 Season 6 Episode No. 27
Lt. General A K Singh (r) GOC in C Southern Command and former Lt. Governor Andaman and Nicobar Islands speaks about his journey and all the experiences that made him the officer he is.
A small snippet from his story -
"I came from or I come from a middle-class family. Father was a highly educated businessman. My mother is not educated, but the homemaker, three sisters. And if I was to look back, I would say I have a very loving family. A family that hung together. A family that gave me samskaras with a great focus on education. I Joined NDA in 1969 as a young lad of about 16 years.
A word about NDA. It's a tri service institution. Which gets scheduled for the Army, Navy, Air Force from all walks of life in India, from all regions, from all religions. And then we joined. We are at different levels of evolution. But in three years it brings us to a common denominator and fills us with great passion to serve the enemy and in terms of the nation.
I have a very strong conviction that once you join the Indian Army, it's your abilities and your merit that counts. So, the first 15, 16 years of your service, if I was to say of service that you do with troops and in the regiment with one or two outside assignments thrown in. Now, this is where your grounding comes in. You can become a capable leader. You have to first establish your credentials at the ground level."
