2 cents on not learning grammar if you wanna learn a language that is extremely similar to one you already know. From my experience it's almost useless because languages like Spanish, Portuguese and Italian are so similar that the only actual things that might be considerably different are prepositions and usage of subjunctive both of which have pretty much no sensible patterns,, at least to my experience as a native Italian speaker. Honestly when learning both Spanish and Portuguese I would also recommending not using Anki. At the very beginning I could understand already around 80 to 90% when watching TV shows with CC on.

So it was pretty much like a very different dialect for you?

Yeah I would say so, also a pretty cool thing is that many Italian local languages (which are pretty much not standardized romance languages) have a lot of traits in common with Spanish and Portuguese, especially in terms of specific forms of conjugations. In one of the dialect I've been exposed to I found that almost all conjugations are almost identical to Spanish forms, and in my native dialect there's a specific phonetic phenomenon that as far as I know exists only in my dialect and in Spanish.

​@@giovanniconte7905Most "dialects" in Italy are actually languages but are considered dialects by Italians. It's worth mentioning that Italian's harder than Spanish as it has more articles and particles are a nightmare. Even so...it took me no reading, no look ups and no grammar to learn Italian to a decent level. I can tell Matt has no horse on this race, he really has no clue as he's only able to speak 2 languages.
