Labor's overnight victories in the Kingswood and Wellingborough by-elections are a headache for the Conservative Government. But another growing threat to the Tories is Reform UK. The party was founded by Nigel Farage in 2018 and could split the Conservative vote at the next general election.
We speak to Reform UK Deputy Leader Ben Habib after his party scored its best by-election results, securing more than 10% of the vote for the first time in a by-election.

@stephenjon3502 2 ай бұрын
@@everest9707Yes, of course we should be looking after our own but voting for any party that only wants to look after their wealthy friends isn’t the way to do it. The Tories have systematically chipped away at anything to do with social or health care, you only have to look at their voting records in parliament to see this. Reform are exactly the same but run as a PLC where you can pay your £25 to join but can’t vote any of their candidates as they are company directors! Reform won’t be able to stem the flood of people coming over as now we are a third country thanks to them gaslighting people over the referendum. The UK signed up to the 1951 Refugee convention and under article 31 we legally have to process anyone applying for asylum. The Rwanda business is just an expensive (for the taxpayer) PR exercise that won’t be used. Unless Reform made a cast Iron guarantee to re join the EU they would be in exactly the same boat ( no pun intended ) You will always need a flow of cheap labour, let’s be realistic, you won’t ever get Brits cleaning trains at night, cleaning toilets, picking fruit n veg or ( unless they are very dedicated ) working in care homes all for minimum wages. You won’t ever get £30 an hour to work in a bar or restaurant either. And until whoever is in power starts giving free training for people to go into nursing you are always going to need a foreign work force to top up the very few Brits who will take on a 60k plus debt to then go and work for £23k a year.
@everest9707
@everest9707 2 ай бұрын
@@stephenjon3502 I am disappointed that you feel that way. Reform UK, like any political party, is not perfect. But it would be kinder for everyone if they handled our current mess. The alternative is going to be a far far right party, and then there will be tears. Any convention that we signed up to, we can sign out of. Would you prefer the UK to be part of the Refugee Convention, and only accepted genuine cases, or that the UK left it altogether, because that is an option. Rwanda is a bit bizarre especially as we have plenty of islands around the UK in which "asylum" seekers (aka economic migrants/chancers) can be housed. Sometimes it is best to accept defeat. The UK will not be rejoining the EU, you lost and that is the end of it. Brits, for a fair wage, will and do clean trains at night, toilets, pick fruit, and take care of the elderly. People get these ideas fixed in their head, and think it will never change or something is impossible. Imagine that there were not a load of immigrants wanting to come to the UK - do you think that those tasks that you mentioned wouldn't get done? They got done by Brits in the past, and will be done again in the future. What makes no sense, is to admit, for example, that taking care of the elderly is easy and always pleasant and so deserves low pay. It's not - it deserves, like every other job in the UK to be paid a fair wage. The UK government, along with the medical unions, are complicit in training insufficient medical staff - again, that has got to stop. The UK is the 5th/6th wealthiest country in the world, if we can't pay to train our own, then just like a business that can only survive on imported cheap labour, we deserve to go bust.
@stephenjon3502
@stephenjon3502 2 ай бұрын
@@everest9707The only reason I mentioned about rejoining the EU was for the ONLY way to send any immigrants back to the first safe country they entered into which as a third country we can no longer do. Rejoining doesn’t really bother me as I’m off over to live permanently in Europe anyway. Everyone lost on that one and anyone who thinks leaving the EU has made the UK more prosperous and in better control needs testing for drugs. Reform won’t ever get full control of government but may take a couple of seats so won’t be doing anything in “stopping the boats “ why would anyone vote in a party that is run by a board of directors? People are voting for them as they struggle to reason with the facts. Read their manifesto - how long will the UK last with them giving everyone a 20k tax break? I worked on the railway for 33 years and never saw any English cleaning trains, it was mainly Africans with a few Eastern Europeans. Once we’d left the EU don’t you remember the government having to charter planes to Romania to have their country men and woman back over to pick up fruit and veg which was going rotten. No English will do these jobs. The same was the first year after Covid when all the main pubs and restaurant’s in the Lake District had to close at 8pm down to lack of staff and this was in August. You won’t ever get a far right party in neither as they struggle to keep their deposit so you can put that point across as much as you like but people with a fully functional brain will never vote for them. There’s also no point in leaving any form of convention or things like the ECHR as the only people that want you to vote for that have the most to gain - a la Brexit where workers rights are now being eroded and there’s more turds floating in our rivers and sea thanks to deregulation.

As a life-long Conservative, I will never vote for them again. I won't be voting for any of the other traditional parties either. None of them are worthy of my time, my trust or my vote. That's why I pledge my allegience to Reform UK, the only true British party that represents our values, our culture OUR PEOPLE! Don't be despondent, the tables are turning in the "right" direction, here, Europe & the USA! We stand together.

YAHOO! GO REFORM UK. Every vote you/us get counts and is not wasted; and this was only a by election not a general one that's expected in the next 12 months. (I couldn't figure out why the lady presenter had 2 mugs in front of her and the male presenter had none? Did she drink 2 cups of coffee and is this why she was so pepped up?) Professor Gumph.

Reform did extremely well when you consider that many of the voters don't have computers to go on line, and a few only watch the BBC and ITV. (Mainly older people). I have seen Party Political broadcasts on behalf of the other parties, but none for Reform. I am so disgusted with the other parties, that I'm voting Reform anyway.

I am from Wellingborough and I was surprised when I went to vote there was 11 parties on the ballot paper, the only parties that made the effort to campaign and really advertise, from what I saw, were Labour and in the upcoming week Reform. Peter Bone’s partner as candidate was probably not the best move for the Tories and again they did not campaign, comes across as maybe they gave up? Plus the reason for Peter Bone’s departure did them no favours, people of Wellingborough clearly had enough and voted change myself included.

That may look small but for a party as young as Reform it's massive, and they are under no illusions they are going to win any seats this election, or even in the byelections. To put it into perspective, the Labour Party in their first general election in 1900 only got 1.29% of the popular vote, and 2 seats. The two big parties at the time were the Conservatives (who won with 402 seats and 50.22% pop vote), and the Liberals (who formed the opposition with 183 seats and 45.07% pop vote). Labour became popular when the Liberals collapsed. What are the Conservatives currently doing?

Well done for getting the bronze medal. Less regulation means more turds floating in our rivers and sea. And how will reform give everyone a 20 k tax allowance when the UK is skint? Complete twaddle.
