Well, actually this "contemporary worship" isn't even worship indeed. It is a true talent shown in these so-called new churches because the leadership is afraid of losing members, especially the youngest ones if they are not allowed to do what they want, which is an opportunity to show up somehow. "Contemporary worship" is not worship because it isn't even addressed to God, it's something to please themselves.

@MEFSP32 Look, I grew up in the RPCNA and know all the talking points, so please don't feel the need to lay them out for me. I just wish you could take a step back and see your arrogance for what it really is. You can call it a talent show and believe that their theology is wrong, sure. But you're going so far as to say it's not worship. That is inexcusable.

Even as a Christian, I cry out "I am chiefest of sinners!" I hear back "grace, grace, grace to you! I called you before the foundations of the world were laid, and you are mine!" I am brought low by this truth daily. I have nothing to bring, to offer or give. Ever. All praise to you, Lord Christ Jesus!

Psalms... they're like hymns, but theologically correct. I am increasingly being sold on exclusive psalmody and acapella worship. Always reforming. Beautiful.

+Ralph Drees Just remember that the consistent psalmody onlyist should only allow the reading of Scripture with no sort of exposition so as to not err in presenting anything theologically incorrect.

A few examples of songs of worship in the Bible found outside the Psalms: Exod 15:1-21, Deut 32:1-43, Jdg 5, 1 Sam 2:1-20 2 Sam 22, Isa 38:9-20, Jonah 2:3-10, Habakkuk 3, Dan 2:20-23, 1Chr 16:8-38, Lk 1:46-55, 67-79

To this my prayer, oh listen Lord And let my cry for help reach you, In day of grief hide not your face, Your listening ear toward me, oh bend, The day I call, your answer send. For all my days go up in smoke, And like a hearth my bones are burned, Like grass my heart is crushed and dried, I daily food forgotten leave, My skin and bones together cleave. With sighs and groans my frame resounds, I’m like a desert pelican, Or like an awl in ruined waste, I lie awake as on the roof, A sparrow stands alone, aloof. All day my foes their taunts repeat, Those filled with anger curse my name, I food with tears and ashes mix, For you on me in anger frown, You raise me up to throw me down. An evening shadow are my days, Like grass I wither soon away, But you, Jehovah sit enthroned, Forever your memorial, Abides through generations all.

@finaldaylight3804 I am not a musician nor a church historian, so I could not give you a technical answer. Maybe one of my many brothers and sisters here could explain how that works. Many other psalms sang a capella in the Reformed churches do not follow the biblical psalms ipsis litteris, however they convey their core message, at the same time that the words are inserted in the metrics, melody lines etc... I imagine it is like writing a poem. I can see the message of the original Psalm 102 being properly delivered in this song. It touches my soul profoundly, especially in times when going through grief and sadness. What a wonderful reminder of the passing nature of this world, which dims in face of the eternal path we have ahead of us in Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior. To Him be the glory today and forever and ever. And ever. And ever more.

I’m baptist but I just read a book by rosaria butterfield and she talked of this reformed Presbyterian Church. The more she shared, the more I felt this was what I was looking for. I’ve never heard of this before. I want to by my first psalter through crown and covenant but I don’t know how to sing them. Surely I will feel God through this music. The songs Jesus sang. There are still songs I love to sing, such as How Great Thou Art, but they are few. Most songs today are too much music and not enough Spirit or Word. Maybe God will help me learn these songs and teach them to my children.

There is also a “book of psalms for worship” app where you can hear the tunes and see the words at the same time! I grew up in the RP church with this psalter (and exclusive psalmody) and it has been such a blessing in my life. I was actually at this conference and it’s so beautiful to hear all those brothers and sisters in Christ from all around the world praising the same God! These psalms have been written on my heart and I hope they will soon be in your’s and your children’s hearts! ❤️ (let me know if you need some psalm recommendations, I have lots of favorites ;) )

Praise God for his Psalms and the way we can communicate to him in such emotion and feeling through his Word. Awesome singing-the Free Church of Scotland released a completely new Psalmody in metre in 2005, FYI translated from the original text into rhyming enlgish. it too is fantastic and conveys excellently what the scripture says. I'm getting my Anglican church to use it!

This was a Sabbath afternoon Psalm Sing. When we had a full worship service in the morning, the dress was much more "formal". BTW, this was not a trained choir. This is our denomination's quadrennial international family conference, and this was "just folks".

Don't say 'just'! In Christ Jesus we (who know Him) are a 'royal priesthood', part of God's family. That said, a session of praise at any time is good and right. What a God we have !

Thank you. This Psalm is from the 1651 Psalms in metre. These are sung acapella by Reformed Churches in Scotland and America. The Lord took me from the fearful pit of sin and condemnation, which is the porch to hell and from wallowing in the miry clay of iniquity and degradation. The glorious triune God set my feet upon that sure rock which is Christ in His amazing counter imputation. He, as the Kinsman Redeemer, lovingly, became responsible for the consequences of my sin and set me free.

this looks to be more like a retreat or conference than church service. i was raised presbyterian and we never sang like this, we had a psalter set to familiar hymn tunes but very rarely used it. @CincinnatusUSA I grew up in the RPCNA so I know where you're coming from. But unlike you, I NEVER smiled and reveled in the concept of such a thing as preordained eternity. I spent years in agony, searching and praying, because no matter how hard I tried and how many pastors I spoke to I knew in my heart that such a thing is simply incompatible with a loving God. I've heard all the arguments for it and they fall short. I imagine you now think that means I am preordained to burn in hell too.

Psalm 102A from the book of psalms for worship. you can find the website by typing in psalter and putting an org right after that. :) Singing the Word of God is incomparably better than hymns (for the sake that it's God's Word meant for singing and Hymns are written by men. Obviously hymns are still good...but Psalms are just awesome. :)

Thanks so much, but I think I understand now, this was a practiced choir; not a layman service? In other words, they are actually trained singers for the most part? The other question would then make sense that they had a pitch tune before the recording started? just guessing though. BTW this was very special and meditating on the words as the hearts sang out, was impacting.

I attended an RPCNA church for about a year. And i like psalm singing, but why do people say "it is singing the psalms" when there are NO musical notes or arrangements IN the Psalms of the Bible? ONLY THE WORDS are "the psalms" and NOT the octaves or scale or timing or notes or melodies ... no bass or treble clef is in the bible book of Psalms?? meh .... all of those things were added later by men. not by God??? Personally i prefer Eastern Orthodox chants in terms of worshipful aesthetic beauty but i fail to find those in the bible either. :-\

@mimmar3891 It isn't a concept that there is preordained eternity, it isn't an argument either, it's what the Bible says. Acts 4 says that God predestined Jesus death for sinners: "for truly in this city there were gathered together against your holy servant Jesus, whom you anointed, both Herod and Pontius Pilate, along with the Gentiles and the peoples of Israel, 28 to do whatever your hand and your plan had predestined to take place " (Acts 4:27-28).

why is it so hard for an all powerful being to reveal himself and give us truth to a lost people and preserve it? Why do you hate God for being just and merciful? why do you accept mans word over your creators? I ask questions that God already answered: man is sinful and in willful rebellion to God, and the more he revealed himself the more we hated him, he came and died for our sin so those who believe would live, and those who did not would recieve justice for their sin.

It is 102 from the Book of Psalms for Singing 1973 published by Crown and Covenant on behalf of the RPCNA It's not the scottish Psalter 1. 1 To this my prayer O listen, LORD! And let my cry for help reach You. 2 In day of grief hide not Your face. Your list'ning ear toward me O bend; The day I call, Your answer send, 2. 3 For all my days go up in smoke, And like a hearth my bones are burned. 4 Like grass my heart is crushed and dried; I daily food forgotten leave; 5 My skin and bones to gether cleave. 3. With sighs and groans my frame resounds. 6 I'm like a desert pelican, Or like an owl in ruined wastes. 7 I lie awake, as on the roof A sparrow stands, alone, aloof. 4. 8 All day my foes their taunts repeat; Those filled with anger curse my name. 9 I food with tears and ashes mix, 10 For You on me in anger frown; You raised me up to throw me down. 5. 11 An ev'ning shadow are my days; Like grass I wither soon away. 12 But You, Jehovah, sit enthroned Forever; Your memorial Abides through generations all.

I think the tune's name is "Baca", composed by William Batchelder Bradbury. You can get the sheet of this tune in Hymnary.org, just type "Baca" in the search

When Jesus Christ our high priest leads the assembly of the saints in worship in heaven what do you think they sing? The only thing that bring honor and glory to our Lord. HIS OWN WORD! They're not Singing "mercy me" or other human inspired songs. So neither should we as God's people. Exclusive Psalmody

This is a very nice song. The video has good quality as well. A small quibble: this isn't a Psalm. It's a Psalm paraphrase. Nothing wrong with that, per se, but it's to Psalm 102 what Luther's 'Mighty Fortress' is to Psalm 46. Does your church body sing the actual Psalms, meaning the verbatim Psalm text?

i prefer Anglican Chant, they do not alter the text, but rather make the music fit the text.

@cabecarpenter Hatendaz2 was being facetious, obviously. Jews actually don't believe in a permanent hell, nor do they think they are the only ones going to heaven. (I learned this from an Orthodox Rabbi and was surprised.) He/she is just trying to have fun by stirring up trouble.

@mimmar391: God finds no pleasure in the death of the wicked, we know. And no one is going into hell because they had no "chance" to get into heaven. Yet, it is pretty clear in the Bible that some people God foreordained to hell, and some to heaven. To go against that is to deny what the Bible says. Ultimately, God chooses us:

How is worshiping a pulpit with the words CALVIN on it different from worshiping a statue of the Virgin Mary or similar?
@BigSkyTheology
@BigSkyTheology 5 жыл бұрын
That’s not a pulpit, genius. It’s a podium at Calvin College, and it says “Calvin College.” And how, pray tell, are they worshipping it. Go back under your bridge troll

Jeremy McNeill , no no, it’s definitely a pulpit or lectern which is sitting on the podium or stage, just as a statue of Saint Calvin might sit on a plinth. Notwithstanding the above I’m not sure you answered my question. Fancy another go?

N B your question is lunacy. Have you ever been to a college? They have auditoriums, usually with a lectern with the name of the college on it. Why don’t you try to care about something that matters.

Jeremy McNeill really, it was a simple question and all you do is hurl insults rather than give a proper answer! I’m not sure whether the lectern is in a college, church, meeting house or the nomenclature of whatever it’s sitting on is relevant.

@applemac100100 Well, thank you for clearing that up. I've been confused about that all this time! :) Just teasing, but in all seriousness, can't you come up with a more detailed response to my posts than that? I'd love to hear what you have to say.

@StringsAndVerses There's not room here for all I want to say. Please feel free to contact me through my KZbin profile if you want to have a more in-depth discussion because I'd like to share some of my other thoughts with you. I do have an author to recommend, a man who studied at the Moody Bible Institute and Wheaton College, who has some fascinating insights gleaned from his many years carefully studying the bible. His name is Bart D. Ehrman.

'Hatendaz2"--you make me smile, for what I read from you is merely the screams of the damned. The more you hate, the stronger we become. Suffer in your own agony--it has been foreordained from all eternity.

@mimmar3891 While, G0D's choice is to reveal His beauty in your uniqueness throughout eternity, if that is not your choice; if you can maintain so, through death, guess what-time will change, "and they shall remember those days no more"-no one will either care or remember; and, it's like many things: "If you believe you can? You can. If you believe you can't? You can't.", either way, in your destiny, you pronounce the deciding vote, but: "Sorry, Charlie-only the best make it.", . . .

@Islandretreat With all due respect, you cannot possibly know that we don't worship the same God. You firmly believe the Bible is the inspired word of God. I firmly believe it is not so your comments regarding Apostacy and damnation hold no water with me. With that gulf between us, I know I won't convince you of what I now see so clearly. Before, I prayed the sinner's prayer out of fear. God in the Old Testament, a being who wiped out entire civilizations, including babies, terrified me. (cont.)

@CincinnatusUSA @CincinnatusUSA (Continued from my previous comment) There simply isn't space here to list all the reasons but let's put it this way. Does an inventor who designed a product prone to system crashes and failures get angry with the product? No, that would be foolish, because he's the one who designed it. I don't know if you're a parent, but if so, can you imagine throwing your child into an eternal lake of fire for disobeying? And God is infinitely greater than us.

Bart D. Ehrman has been debated and beat, questioned and came up short, and found inconsistent in many areas of his points. Bart also corrupts the gospel and makes it less glorious in its truth. God can reveal truth and preserve it, man denies that truth because man hates God.

Hatendaz2, you are not Jewish. The Torah says: "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them." (Leviticus 20:13)

@mimmar3891 And yet, I don't think that you will be in hell because of your wrong belief considering considering God's election/predestination. If you are doubting your salvation, call on God, like the psalm song "God be merciful to me, on thy grace I rest my plea, plenteous in compassion thou, blot out all my transgression now" I have friends who are Christians who struggle with the idea of a God who predestines. Yet, I don't snub them for it. I'm sorry for you if people have snubbed you.

I could write a book on all the reasons why I no longer believe the Bible. But at the heart of it is this: Even the most callous of parents would rarely if ever desire to throw their beloved child into a fire for five minutes. God has given us a tiny fraction of his love and compassion, so that such a thought repulses us. How then can we reconcile divine love with eternal damnation? If you want to continue this discussion feel free to message me here on KZbin because I have much more to say!
