When a beam of light, say sunlight , is passed through a prism, the emergent beam gives a band of seven colours, which is called Spectrum. The spectrum of sunlight with a prism was first time obtained by Sir Isaac Newton in 1686. The seven colours of spectrum are in the order : Violet , Indigo , Blue , Green , Yellow , Orange and Red .It can be remembered by the acronym VIBGYOR..☺
