I REALLY appreciate this video. I hadn't considered the issue with the yoke and intervention. I can see how that would be very concerning. This seems like a massive oversight from Tesla. Maybe it's a good idea to cancel FSD on my order.

Interesting. I have FSD in a model S. I am a little more optimistic but not much. At this point, it is absolutely useless or worse, dangerous in snow covered roads. I quit doing videos in snow. When I watch videos from many other testers, they often cheer about some of the stupidest moves it makes. Like creeping into the middle of an intersection before deciding either to stop completely or move. Each update has mostly small improvements with a side of retrogrades. I taught 3 kids to drive and none of them were this bad. But I keep hoping. Thanks for giving an honest review. GFM

Thanks for videos. My MSLR delivers next week and we've had a Model 3 here for a bit with enhanced autopilot. Honestly, enhanced autopilot is still bad, autopilot in general the freeway the last few days would have killed us a few times since it veered into exit lanes, didn't hold well, had many times of phantom breaking. It confirmed that I'm not going to add FSD to my order as there is no way FSD is going to work well if at all ever, regular autopilot is somewhat decent but requires a lot of monitoring - too much. Wouldn't want my family/parents to have a Tesla with it.

Hi! Thanks for the video! Could you add the version of fsd in title or comment? Thanks

Are there any types of driving where FSD Beta does well, such as suburban or rural roads?

Regular autopilot worked exceptionally well for me on long rural drives. FSD can be turned off and I can revert to regular autopilot. Since getting FSD regular autopilot has been super buggy. It drops speed randomly on straight drives, phantom braking at night if certain signs get illuminated, hard emergency braking with oncoming traffic on highways with no center barrier. All issues I didn’t have before FSD. With FSD activated in the same conditions it’s about the same but it asks me to intervene more often than without FSD. On regular non highway drives FSD works much better in suburban areas than congested city drives but it still struggles with intersections. In the vid you can see the yoke bounce back and forth. That’s typical behavior which is why it’s so dangerous with the yoke. It’s difficult to keep hands in the right place ready to grab the yoke because it only has 2 realistic grab points. The car is constantly trying to decide what it wants to do real time which is good and bad. It’s like teaching a 15 year old how to drive but they’re indecisive about turning right or left as they’re turning.

@@toothfixer There's a channel called Black Tesla who tells his viewers to stop telling him to always touch the yoke. He says that it isn't practical to always have a hand on it. With your explanation, I understand why. I had thought it's probably rather dangerous to drive in urban conditions with FSD and a yoke (he's in NJ near NYC). I've been watching tons of Beta videos for the last five weeks, with close to 50 subscriptions. I've never been in a Tesla, but autonomy and FSD fascinate me. From what I've been seeing, I think pretty much exactly what you're saying. It does apparently okay on less-crowded roads with painted lines and protected intersections. Still makes mistakes, but it's not hard to put together 15 minutes of 'intervention-free' driving on those kinds of roads. But it's quite bad at finding the correct lane, handling unsymmetric intersections, doing any kind of unprotected lefts, parking lots, unmarked roads, going the correct speed, rain, snow, roundabouts, phantom braking, etc. I conclude the same as you: real autonomy is a long way off for Tesla.

OMG, thank you so much for being honest about the yoke and FSD. You've made my decision alot easier about trading my FSD model 3 performance in tomorrow for the Mercedes EQS 580. I ordered a LR model S last June that's due to arrive in two weeks, but I just can't bring myself to pull the trigger because of the yoke and black ugly rims and trim. The S used to look so classy and regal , like the one that was in front of you driving... Now it just looks clunky, dated and muscle car-like... It's not easy to say goodbye to Tesla, but Elon's luxury car has turned into a cliche' cartoon character of it's former greatness.... Such a shame...I've spent 9 months trying to convince myself that I could deal with the yoke and black...But, I'm out... (And for the record, I wasn't planning on purchasing the FSD again anyway)....Thanks for posting bro!

Just sell it if you don't like it! I have no issues with the yoke, it's a big improvement over steering wheel; FSD is Beta for a reason, I will wait for the bugs to be ironed out before buying it (if ever).

I don't have any issues with the yoke without FSD. Even for autopilot going down the road in a straight or moderately curvy road, no issues with the yoke. It's purely a FSD thing, when it fails you need to grab the wheel quickly. Typicial failures will occur when making right or left turns and if you don't grab the wheel quickly you will hit a curb, another car, go into the opposing lanes of traffic, or worst case hit a pedestrian. With a yoke you realistically only have 2 spots to grab the wheel if your hands are not hovering in the right place you will grab air. It's downright dangerous with FSD.

Honestly this is just negative bias. Just sell the car if you have so much issue with it. The best way to get them to change if you believe so is to sell it. Put your money where your mouth is

LOL I did put my money where my mouth is. I bought the car and FSD. This is a FSD video not a review of the car or the yoke. The yoke is a safety issue with FSD only and only under certain situations. It's not a problem with regular autopilot or regular non autopilot driving. I'll post another video with my gopro mounted to the roof that may show the issues better. The car makes quick jerky movements when turning at intersections, it's really difficult to hover over the yoke when it's doing that. A traditional wheel would be much better with 360 degrees of grab points vs 2 with the yoke.
