Using a Flare Sizing gauge tool is a must have for flare fittings. And then using a torque wrench tightened to right spec according to manufacturers literature
@misterindependent7994Ай бұрын
The manufacturer specifications for torque is complete bullsh!t. I've done exactly that and every single one of them leaked. I don't even use my expensive open end torque wrench anymore. I just tighten the nuts like I normally would. tight as hell. Then when it's tight tight, And then I go 350 lb of nitrogen in it and I hope it doesn't bubble.

I use spin flare type tool for flaring,and nylog, and I don’t have leaks when bubble testing.😊

Done 4 of these the past 2 weeks and had 1 flare leak. Definitely gotta check these. Mine was at 600 psi hold pressure.
@leekazan556Ай бұрын
Read the manufactures installation guide and pressure test to the limit specified. Also, put a drop of POE oil on the back of the flare and on the threads and use a torque wrench. Yeah, It sounds like a lot but it will guarantee no leaks.

How do you know the test pressure for doing a test on a mini split?
@LithuanianATLАй бұрын
Installation manual usually has this info

Most are over 500 psi. Regardless always refer to manufacturer installation manual

@@Droningonuk have you checked condenser label? It should have max pressures for the high and low side. You can pressure test up to the high side pressure.

Is is recommended to braze these when possible instead of the flare?

No. Brazing is not recommended for mini splits.

My question is why they have a 45 degree flare when the AN fittings are 37 degree flare more surface area ? I'm a contracter and was a drag racer and we had to use AN fittings for high pressure , please answer this question because it's a no brainer, what I'm saying is 45 degree is for low pressure ,

I cut those out and use Parker refrigeration push to connect fitting. Flares always leak even when torque is right.

@bobpaulino4714 it's the lack of older season techs training beginners. Now big companies just throw them out in the field and expect them to be top techs, I feel sorry for younger guys getting into any skilled trades.

@@AllTattedUp13 We have an awesome apprenticeship for cad, welding, and sheet metal, but our local didn't do small stuff. The company I travelled for was founded in 1867. Ive worked on hand and stoker fired coal, oil, and various gas systems. Blowers big enough to crawl into and pretend you were a gerbil. Ducts you can drive a truck through. 1000 ton chillers, tens of thousands of CFM systems. Nobody wants to work anymore. They want to play with a mouse. I helped teach service when I was in town. There wasn't much interest in our local. Was recently asked if I would consider coming out of retirement to help mentor the younger crew of a company I did some work with 20 years ago as a traveler with another union. They also asked if I'd consider helping design and install controls, try to help grow their commercial business, and maybe even get back into industrial. There were two of us that left about the same time years ago (I was also with EMS and fire at home). Their shop does primarily residential, but under an mes contract, which is considerably lower pay. They made me an exceptional offer but I don't have the cottage up there any longer.

Doesnt leak if done by a qualified engineer ie ME. use oil on the copper flare and add loctite 577 on the compression. It will never leak after EVER.

R410 is absolute crap as its 2 components split and she smaller one is the one to find a leak. Most get dumped and replaced with R32 systems.
