Very grateful for this video! I called months ago a GE tech and paid a lot of money for nothing, he only told me to disconnect the fridge to to melt the ice … it didn’t work…. after living months with a constant puddle I saw your video and problem solved…. There was a “nugget” of insulation foam clogging rubber valved I assume from factory… thanks again!

Fantastic video! I had been clearing out ice build up every other month and couldn't figure out why. I pulled off the back panel and sure enough, there was gunk in the black rubber valve. Really appreciate the pro tip!

Awesome video! Probably saved me about $500! My problem was the grommet in the back. Once I took the clogged grommet off, there was a flood of water that came down... for others with this issue you may want to be prepared with towels and a bucket.

Three weeks ago I emptied the freezer and refrigerator, left it unplugged for about 24 hours, and started all over. Alas, same problem. Today your video told me about that gasket in the back. Sure enough it was clogged. Hoping this is the solution. I am still leaving the darned thing unplugged for 48 hours. Thank you so much for a great lesson!

This video helped me out immensely. My grommet was clogged with some shards of the insulating foil which then backed up the water and froze up and caused water to pool up outside of my freezer about once a month.

If you re-install the grommet, the problem will happen again. Cut off the restrictive duckbill feature and this problem will go away forever.

Why are the tube holes designed that way? Why not just cut the middle part so it's one big drain hole? Is there a purpose for it to drain slower?

I assume it’s there for an attachment of the pipe. I assume you can open the hole.

I would not remove the duckbill grommet. Small rodents could, theoretically get inside the freezer if it is removed. A house mouse requires only about a 1/4" opening to gain access, and I'm sure it helps keep the compressor fan from blowing dust and debris up into the freezer.

I have no idea why they designer made the grommet hole so small that common debris and dust would clog the hole so water would stop flowing and then freeze. Just removing the ice does not fix the root cause. One has to clean the clogged grommet.

if you want to damage your fridge, than use hair drier. inside the freezer area is an evaporator not condenser.

I killed the power to the fridge and then used a hair dryer to melt the ice that built up in the tray. Can’t just leave my frozen goods out for 24/48 hours. Haven’t had any issues, been about a month.
